I am a disabled vet @ 60%. I am very lucky to be able to perform everyday tasks with no limitaions. I think it would benefit disabled veterans to have a gym they can go to. The dept of Veteran affairs should build a massive gym that would benefit the veterans at every VA hospital. Membership should be determined by the percent of diablity. An example: If membership is $35 per month and if you are 60% disabled like myself then you would get 60% off the monthly membership. Someone that is 100% has no fee ... ect...This would make it affordable and encourage veterans to participate in an active health program. I also feel this would benefit the Veterans Administration in overall health cost. Being in shape can help eliminate problems that come from being sedentary and overweight. This would overall help the cost of health care for the Veterans Administration and increase the quality of life for our wonderful Veterans.

You have a good idea, present it to your Congressman. The biggest need is financing, there are plenty of Federal programs around that are over funded. Suggest to the Congressman or Congresswoman that they look into
such programs, but be polite. I'd be tempted to remind them of government waste, but you would hurt your cause.

Good luck!

Keep smiling, everyone will wonder what you've been up to!

Good luck!

I had some spine surgery and have been out of commission after years and years of getting 300s on the PT Tests.

I have just discovered the P90X program and it is a GREAT excercise program! It's all core work so you do it all at home with minimal gear, some fly wieghts, or bands and a pull up bar and some pushup bars.

There is even an amputee in the video and they show you how to alter the plan to your disabilities.

It's based on "Muscle confusion" where there is a different excersise group and activity every day. I am on my 2nd week of the first 3 week program and I have nerve damage to my left arm and the spine issues and also a really bad left knee so they show you how to overcome these disadvantages. I kinda cruised through it the first week just to get to know the excercises but I am not counting that.

I went from 220 to 207lbs!!!
The first 3 weeks is a 7 day workout with rest or stretch on the 7th day.

Day 1. Chest back, ab Ripper X
Day 2. Plyometrics, (the amputee is here to show you how to overcome your knee problems.
Day 3. shoulders & arms, ab Ripper X
Day 4. Yoga X, (one of the hardest to me with the gut I have, I never sweat so hard standing sill in all my life.
Day 5. Legs & Back, Ab Ripper X
Day 6. Kempo X
Day 7. Rest or X Stretch

I can't wait for the next evolution! It's fun and these guys are smoked just like me at the end and they really help you put forth the extra effort.

I think it has actually strengthened my inner knee stabilizing ligaments and tendons that were neglected for 6 or 7 months from the spine surgery. I was yeld at by the Surgeon for working out after my surgery and he ordered me to lay on the couch and watch TV and drink beer until the cadaver bones in my spine fused with my vertibrea! I was only MORE THAN WILLING to abide!
But 40 lbs later ... I was a mess! I gained about 20 lbs just from 3 or 4 months of pain and not being able to work out and then I had to rest and let it fuse.

I feel a LOT stronger now and my goal is to get back to my fighting weight at 170 before August!

I know it's expensive but it is well worth it.
I am not buying the special drinks nor am I doing nothing but limiting my intake of good nutritious food.

I am almost able to keep up with them with most of the excercises now but in the beginning, I couldn't do SHI'IT!!!

Good luck to you all.

Go to BeachBody.com or google P90X!
Oh ... and I still drink Light Beer and vodka on Saturdays!!!

Ouch that hurts to see an opportunist throw and advertisement in the forum.

Wow! That stung a little. I didn't know I was an opportunist. I thought I was a real live person.
It works and this was a thread I thought might like to know about it.
I was kind of excited about the results in such little time.
I like it.
I didn't mean to "ADVERTISE IT" but how else could I tell you all about it if I didn't point you to where it was?
If you can answer that I will take your post as valid. Otherwise ... "Don't be a hater."

If it was sincere I apologize. My point was only that I hate to see people spam important threads with ads. This subject is important to me and I do appreciate a good person getting a good word out about something that may help someone else. I just thought it was something you were selling and took an opportunity to "sell" it. Like I said.... I do apologize if I was wrong. Wink
