RE: http://www.military.com/military-fitness/health/can-you-quit-smoking

I smoked for almost 40 years. At times, like in Vietnam, pretty heavy. I quit six month ago using a new medication called Chantix. Quit in six days and haven't had a cigarette since. It's prescription medication, but well worth the cost. Good luck. It feels great to be a non-smoker.

well I can tell you what, I smoked for roughly 10 years and last january just went cold turkey and haven't smoked since.

I do miss it sometimes, but I feel alot better. I don't get winded at all and have a much better time in the sack.

Good for you two! I don't smoke cigarrettes, but I do smoke cigars. Not saying that it's safer or okay. I don't have cravings or urges to light up a gicar however. It's not unusual for me to go a week without lighting one up.

these new medications seem to help, but the best way is cold turkey.

to go cold turkey, you have to change your whole lifestyle as well.

get more exercise. this will make you appreciate your lungs more.

drink water and juice and avoid sodas, coffee and alchohol for at least a little while. these types of beverages can act as craving triggers.

eat more fruits and vegatables. these foods aren't usually associated with smoking, so they shouldn't trigger cravings.

if possible, find a buddy or a spouse to quit with. having a team will make it easier.

leave yourself a note on your mirror in the morning telling yourself congrats for quitting smoking, or reminding yourself of your motivation to quit.

i smoked for 9 years and quit a year and a half ago and i couldn't feel any better.

i will have to say, i'm 20 years old, and have first layed my hands on a cigarette at age 9... at age 11 i started smoking daily.. at age 14 i quit smoking for 2 years, then started smoking at age 16.. now im 20 and still smoking, and i regret it every bit of the way for starting up again, i love to exercise, run, fight, spar, and just plain up be fit.. but cigarettes slow me down, and i've tried quitting agian, just not enough will.. but i'll be damned if i'll smoke cigs the rest of my life!!!

Congrats to all who have quit, i know i can do it again, i guess im just not ready!

I quit smoking 1 month ago on Chantex. This stuff was great. I didn't need the entire prescription. After smoking for 30 years I feel great. I do get the occasional slight crave, but it's nothing I can't beet. Good luck to everyone trying to quit. IT CAN BE DONE!!!!!!!

Doo eet! I smoked for about 12 years and one morning after coughing up a ton of crap I decided that I really didn't want to deal with this nonsense anymore. I grabbed the rest of my smokes and tossed them in the garbage. You only go as far as YOU want too. I've been smoke free for 3 years now and have never felt better about anything. Of course I still get a craving but they say 'once addicted, always addicted' right? Stay strong and ride the turkey! It can done.
