motivation.
You motivate yourself to work out just like you would motivate yourself to go into a job when you do not 'feel like going in'. The police forces are looking for sheep that would rather help round up other sheep than understand what the Constitution is really about. You would think after nine months of this post that someone (besides myself) would have the seeds to tell us this truth. |

Hello! I applied to be a City Police Officer. I am going to be 55 in July and want to know what should I do to prepare for this and if I made a good decision. I have had training while I was in the USAF. I wrote the Sheriff a letter and sent my resume and she sent me the applications to apply. I am just waiting for an answer back.

Your post shows ignorance and immaturity. Unless you can provide concrete examples of your statement, it displays guessing and speculation from a pompous fool which probably runs in your entire worthless family. |

Can anyone answer my question? I know about motivation....I just want to know if I am too old to be a police officer. Get off assessing the motivation bit! This is suppose to be to help veterans like yourself, who are jobless and such. Does anybody care out there?

Sorry you got lost in the thread. I can not answer the too old, our are 1 year older than I am. If you are in good shape and of sound mind you might just get hired. If not, try for a civilian job with the policae department.

My last post contained unnecessary verbiage that will not happen again. Just because I disagree with someone, there was no need to get personal. I thank the mod. for his patience.
With 50 states, there's 50 different sets of rules regarding maximun ages for entrance LE positions. My state caps it off at age 29, with up to 6 additional years permitted for military service. The theory is that the older a recruit is means more chances of job-related injuries. Other states subscribe to the results of comprehensive physical and endurance exams without concern of a man's age. I like older applicants. They bring with them life experiences and maturity. This results in better decision making and less lawsuits. The current economy has heightened interest in police jobs and competition has never been so fierce. Good luck. Look at federal, state, local, courts, harbor master, fire marshal, corrections, probation, and even animal control. They're all good jobs. |

I remember women just entering the LE field in the 1970's. Before that women primarily occupied administrative or juvenile positions. Later on many female patrol officers found they had to prove themselves over-and-over again to the mostly male dominated profession.
The ranks are now filled with many women with some advancing to executive positions. They have done very well. Our original suspicions and compliants turned out to be wrong. I would work next to a woman LEO anytime for what I perceive as keen interviewing and interrogation skills. I believe a woman officer has an advantage breaking down communication barriers than men. This applies not only to suspects, but also victims and witnesses. I wish you luck. We're not allowed to post links here, but look at USAJOBS. |
