RE: http://tech.military.com/equipment/view/89054/m82a1-sasr.html?eq_id=89054
NO, no, no, no, no. The M-82 has its "anti material" or "explosive" purposes, but its accuracy is too variable for an extreme long range sniper. The United States Marine Corps shot the longest distance in the world using a very different, suprisingly smaller package: The .408 Cheytac. Using the handheld balistics computer issued with the weapon, a sniper can deliver fire out to a mile accurately and then some. The computer can even guide the shooter on arching a shot over objects such as a wall, building, or even over allied troops. With the spread of a small pie pan at beyond a mile, i think this rifle could very well be the most accurate extreme long range rifle for the next 10-15 years. Go to Cheytac's homepage to read more. Google cheytac, or try www.cheytacintervention.com |

No, no, no, no, no. The M82 is classified as a sniper rifle....period.
The Canadians, NOT the US Marine Corp, have the longest kill, in Afghanistan. The .408 Cheytac is NOT used or issued by the US Marines....nor the US Air Force, nor the US Navy, nor the US Army. A scant few SF units in NATO have bought it, but it is not used regularly. Your info is straight from "Idontknowit-stan" Life ain't worth living, if ya ain't got a good cigar. |
