I am not a marine, but I am looking forward to this series. There is a book out by Bing West, "The March Up" which is about the drive north by the division. Check out Borders and the military history section--there are many new books out about the Marine Corps!

I have this sneaky idea that conservative types are going to HATE this miniseries, and therefore the truth.

And it is all based upon the actual truths that the Marines showed the man who wrote it.

But I suspect they'll hate it anyway.

I dont think they care. And besides, every AO is different so its not like they couldnt say its not true for all Iraq. Not to mention its died down so much

The question is always, what’s your (PBS) objective?
If it isn't the truth, open and transparent, but rather another PBS puff piece that’s slanted leftward it will be apparent.

I saw the show and I thought it was pretty good.As far as the Marines depicted their conduct and alot of the things that were said and done were very much true to life. Looking forward to the next show....Ooorah!!!GIT SUM MARINE!!!

I was there with RCT 1, RCT1/7. I was an amtracer attached to 7th Marines Bravo Co.
I watched the show last night and they did and awsome job so far.. Everything said and done was to the T. Everything from J-Lo dying to when they got into Iraq and everyone didn't know what to do (shoot or not).
I think they did glorify their selves a little bit. It wasn't like we sent 5 hummers into Iraq by themselves. Our tip of the spear isn't a couple hummers. Everyone had a different route so our spear was huge.. Tanks, AAV's, Cat teams (hummers). Think about this.. If they were the tip and gonna see the most action. Why Rolling Stones reporter? We had Martin Savage, CNN. They stayed at Matilda, we stayed at a **** hole to the north 8 miles from the boder.
But all in all it was a very good show and I look foward to the rest.

I can not believe an officer would conduct himself like "Captain America" did...this has to be a stretch. I've never even heard of any officer conduct himself that way in combat in iraq. I thought this was a Recon Battalion?

The guys on my AAV would talk about this guy. He was a nut. He was later investagated for war crimes, so I heard. And yes it was a recon unit.. Recon does what they want, always hve always will. And what about the officer that lied right to the face of his Col. ?? Ever see that?
