I don't know why anyone would be surprised. This is The Way of The Wards in Chicago. Somebody helps you get elected, you give 'em a nice job in city hall...er um (think bigger, Barry) OK the CIA!

We don' got nuttin' ta worry 'bout. Leon runs a clean house dat trains loyal Democratics in politicin'...

Wheee! Hang on...the ride's just getting started.

To be fair, though... both men seem to be more than a little sharp. And as partisan as Panetta is (and he is) he leans more toward statesmanship than most partisans on either side of the isle.

I'm just wondering if this guy who serve during Clintons admin and had his hands in Intell back then was part of the Intell that said Iraq had WMD's? therefore leading us to invade Iraq base upon that bad Intell. And leading up to 9/11 (Intell so bad) If so..very bad pick, either the guy didn't know what he was doing back then and by the sounds of it, hasn't pick up any pointers since then.

Now this really makes me feel safe...unreal. Time for everyone to protect themselves as they won't. Obviously, the BO admin will not take the threats against us seriously. Roll Eyes

"Blair and Panetta would replace retired Adm. Mike McConnell and former Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden, respectively. Both men had said they would stay in their positions if asked."

Yeah, I'll bet they would, er.."stay in their positions" if asked. I can unerstand Sen. Feinstine's concern but, I didn't know the President elect had to consult with her before making his selections, mabe she has a point and I'am sure it will taken into account but, I agree, what we need at this time is a "clean break" from the Bush administration. Only time will tell if they are the right or good choices.

I guess I never understood the reasoning of Politcal Appointees for heading up such offices as the CIA, etc.

When I worked for US Customs, Marine Interdiction, an appointee was brought over from the USAF to run the Air & Marine program. He was a very intelligent F-16 pilot so no doubt he could run the air side of the program but he knew nothing about Marine Interdiction...chasing drug smuggling boats.

Eventually he came up to speed but didn't Obama and Hillary both talk about "hitting the ground running on Day 1" during their campaigns?

It just seems to me that when someone is picked to run such a postition, wouldn't be best to promote someone from within who knows all about the agency, probably haven been in it for 20 yrs?

No surprises with this announcement. Obama is just re-installing the Clinton Administration. Didn't we have enough during Slick Willie's 8 years??? I guess not. Hillary finally got to be President - by appointment. How shrewd.

This is like appointing someone to be in charge of a nuclear reactor on a submarine although the person has only seen pictures of a Bass boat and doesnt even know we have subs.

I heard Al Queda, The Taliban and Hamas all support these intel. appointments

Who is next, Lindsay Lohan for Commerce Secretary? It seems to me that she would meet the current PEBO administration qualifications and vetting.

Why should ANYONE be surprised. Although it appears that this President elect is trying to build and align his team, it is still questionable what game it is he has hired on to play. He has depended a lot on past administration’s players (good, bad or questionable) to fill the void of his personal lack of governmental experience, both nationally and internationally. (Hillary will surely save him). We must remember, he himself has only 54 days in the Senate prior to being elevated to this new lofty position. Selecting Mr. Leon Panetta is yet another individual who will be in a key position, drinking from the fire hose trying to learn and understand what his job is and the role he plays. The President elect has this same handicap. They White House has become a vast OJT Center for this next administration. We can only hold our breath and hope for the best. We must support him as much as possible ( we have him for at least four years) and as much as he will allow as he walks this countries future path while on eggs. I am afraid that his inexperience and pride will limit him from accepting advice and assistance from the more experienced who are available. Having this Speaker of the House will only compound the blunders that are coming. Perhaps the following saying comes into light; “We the inexperienced now lead by the unqualified are in a position to do the impossible with nothing more than the lack of common sense and know-how.” GOD BLESS AMERICA! Wink Cool

Unfortunately this is what we have to do with if our candidate did now win the office...let alone get to the showdown! Good officers rely on their 'mustangs' and experienced career non-coms. While I was expecting to see a selection from within, it wasn't done so let's hope, for our country's sake, that Leon listens to his experienced agents before making a final decision...and let's hope that decision is the right one!
God Bless America for we are...One Nation Under God!

Where are all the liberals telling us what a great, insightful and daring selection? Elections have consequences. Get ready for more change.
