Glad the ole girls are getting to strut their stuff once again.
God bless the crews of the these birds with safety, for the dangerous jobs they perform... Respectfully, SUNLINER81 |

That's an absolutely huge beast! Here are a few vids of it on YouTube, although the best one (the second one) is in German - not a problem for me, but the piccies are still spectacular, even if you can't understand the lingo:

Nice job posting that pic, now that gives it justice when folks say how big it is! |

Back in 1957 one of these came to our base for an air show. Before the public was allowed in we were able to explore the aircraft. I had been all over a B-50, C-97 and C-124's but this was really different. It was huge and the space inside was amazing. Behind the flight deck it had a galley, bunks and more room than you could imagine. I always wondered what happened to these monsters and now I know.

Lets get this straight, these old birds are still flying and doing the job? Why can't we design anything to last that long today? Someone needs to start looking at these old sturdy aircraft for idea's about designs today.

Quality, craftsmanship, a sturdy airframe and good maintenance are part of the equation for why many older
war birds can still be of use today instead of the scrapheap. |

That is a cool old bird. Great to see her in service.

I remember touring one of these great birds when it was parked in a hangar at NAS Alameda back in the late 1940's when I was a young boy. It was an experience that I have never forgot. They certainly don't make them like they used to.
