Sounds like it could be a great powertrain system but at this point is it combat worthy? the picture didn't make it look very rugged and it didn't seem to offer much protection. I think as far as putting soldiers in harms way in one of these, lets make sure it is rugged and safe before we risk our soldiers. Iraq is not a great place to take a road test.

So will the solar panels come as a bolt-on kit, or where will this one plug in for a re-charge?

What happens to the weight-power ratio when somebody notices and decides it needs armoured doors, a lid-mounted fire supression system, or a lid for that matter. That baby should be able to outpace a golf cart, or the toy SUV the kids drive around the backyard.

Suitable for deer hunting, but watch out for charging bucks.

Kewl lookin vehicle. Not much chance of it being used by our troops though. It has no protection from bullets or bombs. Probably wont move when they put 10,000 lbs of armour , anti-tank missles and 2 50 cal MG's on it.

Makes ya wonder how we ever got along with the old Jeep for all those years. Maybe we can operate it unmanned thru the digital satellite system and hire KBR to fuel and maintain it.

What a joke.

If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause.

As I read the article, they went to batteries to make it somewhat of a stealth vehicle. You know, sneak up on ya. Kind of like Rat Patrol (a fairly bad TV show). Do not believe anyone would seriously consider this a replacement for anything we now have. Why have a stealth vehicle rolling down a Baghdad street? Sort of d defeats the purpose of stealth! Would make a great reconnaissance vehicle just as soon as they can come up with bolt on angled anti radar panels. Perhaps one of the options is a 50 mile extension cord! Have a good day! Wink Cool

Hey...don't knock "Rat Patrol"...ok..bad premise...bad scripting...acting was so-so...BUT...They single handedly wiped out Rommel's forces...ya gotta wonder why we needed all those other forces in WWII...

It reminded me of "Speed Buggy". You are correct that it would make a good hunting vehicle. I'd like one also. My question is, "Will it have enough power to pull it's way through the sand or any other hard terrain?" The concept is great and you will probably see rich people buying them up like the "Hummer" and so forth. But military worthy...I don't know. From the picture I would say, "No". Gun Loads of changes will have to be made.

It is about time!!! I just got a hybrid and it is the best vehicle that I have ever driven! It is quiet, cheap on fuel and every time I hit my brakes, I am charging my battery instead of burning asbestos.

I cannot stand those bleeding heart liberals that have fallen for that ridiculously stupid GLOBAL WARMING SCAM. It is so funny that the gas companies have been getting away with scams also. In fact, the Enron scandal was simply the electric companies doing the exact same things that the gas companies have done forever. IE; shutting down power plants is the same as shutting down refineries for that 'summer formula' BS... I challenge anyone to take a vial of winter fuel and summer fuel and find a freakin difference!!! NOTHING BUT SCAM AFTER SCAM AFTER SCAM!!!! It is ironic that the 'formula shift' happns just before the summer travel season!

A positive for the Hollywood Stars and Starettes.
Something new to make them feel like Warriors and save the Earth from burning up at the same time.
Looks a tad like something out "Back to the Future"

This what needs to be done to TRAIN engines. All they need to do is change the ELECTRIC MOTORS to ELECTRIC MOTOR-GENERATORS & do the electronics. I have writtem this suggestion to the ACTHESION, TOPEKA SANTE FE / BURLINGTON NORTHEN, or B.N./S.F. or BNSF @ TOPEKA KANSAS. REX

Come on guys! We've all seen these nifty li'l kit cars in movies where soldier goes in all bad@#* and then.... POW! Before you F*@#k'n it, half your squad is torn apart because technical difficulty with new gadgets. I sure hope they modify and find a suitable place for appropriate testing. I'm sick and tired of hearing our men and women getting hurt or killed because something new is rushed out. Deers don't carry weapons with ap rounds or rpg's. They don't set up or strap up with explosives and do a kamakazie on our asses either. Cool lets keep our cool out there.

You are missing the point...bringing new innovation to the battle field is the right thing to do; however, this is not new it was killed a couple of years ago. Now I guess Detroit has some finally got someone to flip the bill to bring the USA Auto Industry into the 21st Century to provide the public cheaper hybrid vehicles. WAKE UP...

G'Day Tinks, Sunliner, et al.

I agree with Sunliner, much ado about nothing. An IED would send one of these things vertical at a faster speed than it's max land speed!

Many branches but one brotherhood!

Just my conspiracy theorist peeking out, but this smells of a way to funnel money into Detroit to develop hybrid engines. How many cool things do we have now that started out as a military project? The mouse you are using for one was an "x,y pointing device" created for military use.

I don't buy all that stealth nonsense and the vehicle itself is impractical. Keep in mind, however, the HMMWV came with vinyl doors until Iraq happened. How much are we going to have to spend to retro fit all these cool toys to handle armor plating?

Still, I would not mind having one for fun on the weekend!
