sweet! what's really awesome is seeing a Nuke getting to this level; I gotta wonder how he found the time to maintain that level of training. I haven't even managed to find the time to get my ribbons, in 8 years in the same rate and job. maybe being a Senior Chief has something to do with it.
Imagine how awesome our military would be if it was a priority for everyone in the ARMED SERVICE to learn to shoot firearms. I am in disbelief at how unimportant marksmanship is compared to the constant barage of MANDATORY internet based training classes that are dictated by the "SHEEP WHO LEAD THE LIONS"
I am a woman who competed in the 1968 All Navy Rifle and Pistol Competition at Annapolis Maryland. I competed for two years (but only made All-Navy once)and I shoot a high powered rifle (at that time they used the M-1). There were only three women at All-Navy, and I wondered why there weren't more of us. Women, get out there and give it a try! It's a lot of fun, and not because women were outnumbered by men. It's good exercise, it get's you outside, and you can make some great friends. It also teaches concentration and an steady hand. I had to stop competing when I got out of the Navy, but I still remember the fun I had and wish that I could still compete. I admire all who spend the time that it takes to become a good competitor.
Good on ya, Senior Chief! Go, go, go! I competed in the '60's, the good 'ol Garand/1911 days, and never got beyond District level. Once, didn't shoot well enough to advance, more than once, couldn't get orders to continue. Shooters were Navy stepchildren then. Now if I'd been exhibiting finely tuned and highly necessary military skills in volleyball, softball, or Football --------but that's another rant. It ain't luck, it's skill, but you've got the skill, I'll be content with wishing you the very best of luck. Even from an Airdale to a Bubblehead! AWC(AC,SW) C. ROBERTS USN(RET)
Good shooting. Best I did was in the Presidents 100 in '63. Hope you have a lot more support than I could muster in the 60's from my duty station. Made the team two years but could not go for the third time. The ship could not do with out me. Ha. After that I was over the pond and could not even try out.
Folks, Thanks much for the support. All of you seem to have hit the nail on the head as it were. Believe it or not this is only the second year I have been involved with this sport. I'm sure if I had more time for practice I would be much more competitive.(poor excuse) As some of you have seen, the Navy in general is lacking in small arms skills. I once saw a young sailor put the butt of an M-16 in the center of his chest during weapons quals because we did such a poor job of showing him what he was supposed to do. The people I've gotten to shoot with have been incredible. It's one of the few sports I know of where your opponents try to help you do better. And for the women out there, I got beat out by CT1 Heather Hand at the Fleet matches this year during the EIC match. I took silver but she took the gold! Hope to see you on the range!
