I feel that the time frames placed on these eductional benefits need to be lifted. (Permanently) After serving for 20 years I only have 10 years to use my benefits? I feel this is unfair to a veteran who gave so much over the prime of their life only to have little time to really stop and try to figure out what one wants to do in todays ever changing society. Trends dictate needs and the needs dictate the type of education required to fill these needs. Why only 10 years to use your benefits, we should have these benefits as long as we are able to go back to school to try to better ouselves. I think the benefits should be lifelong, just like the retirement checks!
I agree completely. My 10 year window ended before I could complete my degree. I ETS this Summer. If I could simply have the remainder of my unused education benefits, I would seriously consider re-enlisting. As is, there is little for me to gain while recruits with no experience are offered education with ease. There should be a way for recruiters to include a new education package for re-enlisting reservist soldiers.
I would agree your benefits should be life long. I also would agree that a benefit should be available to all who servered. I am in my 28th year of service, and when I leave this coming December, I take no education benefits with me! I made an ill advised decision 24 years ago to not put $25 in a VEAP account and have paid for it ever since. So, hold your benefits close and keep fighting for what is your's.
I also feel that the time frame for educational benifits should be lifted from ten years to lifetime.I served 4 years in the U.S.Navy & received an honorable discharge. When I got out I had a family to take care of & now that the kids are grown up I'd like get a degree to better myself. Thanks for Your time & keep fighting for our benifits!!
I think they should treat veterans a lot better. Just give them the cash straight up tax free . They could buy a house , start a business or goto school , invest it towards retirement.
I feel that the 10yr limit is very unfair. When some members like I have disability issues that prevent a vet from attending school during that 10yr time frame. I feel that the time frame should be lifted with no time limit at ALL!
I also feel the 10 rule should be eliminated..As a retired veteran once I retired I had to immediately look for a job to support my family..This was my number one priority.. Now that my only child is grown and I am no longer married. I would at this stage of my life like to go back to school to earn a degree and not feel like all the benefits that were promised as a military retiree is not wasted. This rule should be changed to a number of months and once those months are used up your benifits would end
