As a supporter of our Administration, and our efforts to win the war against Islamic extremeism, I disagree with your assesement. Instead of it being because American sons and daughters are still fighting, I believe it is because hollywood producers liberal message is wrong. The American people disagree with their thinly veiled message of anti-Republican government. Not for sake of their own message, but just because they do not like a Republican President in office. BTW, while I enjoy Francis Coppela's movie, I don't think that it's great for it's message, but because of it's visual effects. For most people, A.N. was their first look at what they thought was the war in SE Asia.

One particular "heroic" movie about an unpopular war was produced and released and had totally BOMBED at the box office. That would be John Wayne's "The Green Berets". Many pro-war films made during the US involvement in the Korean Conflict had also bombed at the box office.
Present day antiwar films perhaps haven't been doing well because most folks have already been inundated with so much negative news coming out of Afghanistan and Iraq for years now. They don't need to pay money to watch a Hollywood film that portrays the same stuff that they can get for free from the variety of news channel/websites. Based on audience sentiment, movies that put the Iraq debacle in a different light will fare no better. |

In the Berets the "John Wayne truths" of the war were shown in movies and Hollyweed types didn't like it could this be the reason it bombed as did other pro war films of "unpopular" wars. |

Agreed, some of the effects were stunning while the story line was pure bs. IMHO, the only movies that came close to telling it like it was were "Go Tell the Spartans" and "The Green Berets". The comedy "Operation Dumbo" was a portrayal of a real event as well. "Bat 21" was close but didn't do justice to the book that was written by people that actually took part in the rescue. T31 |

GO TELL THE SPARTANS was a very good anti-war picture, released a couple of years before APOCALYSE NOW. It had a great cast, decent special effects, and a good script based on a book "Incident at Mukden". I believe it came and went at the box office, sadly. Some folks I spoke with regarding the picture said the Pentagon HATED it and somehow got the movie distributors to limit its release, although I had seen the film in a U.S. military post cinema. The all-military audience there seem to have liked it.
Maybe that movie didn't do well because it was released too early. The Vietnam experience was still fresh in people's minds and just wanted to forget it all and move forward with their lives. As a result of the box office success of the surreal look of "Apocalyse Now", Vietnam was reawakened, giving a socially conscience voice to the vets who were there. |

Hollywood went "Red" long before Agganinstan and Iraq. You will never see anything out of this group that shows solders with any qualities unless it is agaist the military or the governmnent. I live in LA. There is alot of unthinking or "group think" that says "If its good for America then I'm against it! It almost seems that this group will support anything destructive and attack anythig good about our country, its military or its government.

I concur. Those who think we are evil are our known foreign enemies (among them Radical Islam, which is funded in terrorism) and the enemy within (the socialist secular "progressive" liberals). You wonder why they (the enemy within) don't move to Iran or North Korea or Venezuela or Cuba or (well, you get the idea)? It's because they really have no clue how severe and harsh life is with such repressive tyrannic governments; that's why! |

"The Green Berets" was a a well-intended movie but fell short to deliver because it was poorly portrayed and quite unrealistic... Bear in mind that it was filmed in the "jungles" of Fort Benning! |

"Go tell the Spartans" could have been a good movie only if it have had the production budget of say, "Apocalypse Now." Unfortunately, the movie was low-budget and poorly acted. Nevertheless, I like it. |

Amen! Granted, the war is unpopular; however, how can "Hollyweed" movie producers and directors think that dumping on our military is "the way to go" to show their clear support for a one-sided political agenda (i.e. socialist liberal) ?! I am not going to deny that there have been some isolated wrong incidents, but the fact remains there are mostly great success stories to tell about our military! Rather than focusing only on the negatives they should focus on the vastly positive situations and make movies praising our sadly underrated soldiers! |

I think the original MASH was very anti war. But it was good, becuse it had a respect for military personal. And it gave an honest portrayal of some jackass types we've all run into. Boobs who never should have been sworn in, in the first place.

I agree. Don't forget "Black Hawk Down," "Tears of the Sun" and "Saving Private Ryan." |
