RE: http://forums.military.com/money-for-school/tuition-ass...e-tuition-assistance

With the job market requiring Masters and above, why is tuition assistance not offered into a Doctoral program, instead of allowing someone after earning a Bachelors & Masters to be able to take all the certificate programs possible. That same money can be used towards a Doctoral program.

Doctoral degrees are mostly for those that want to teach at the university level. I don't think the CCAF will be requiring any Phd level professors any time soon.

I spent 20 years2months and5days in the Air Force. I was promised that I would get "4" and I repeat "4"years of college when I finished the service. Well I never got the promised school !!! The government seen fit to cancile my G.I. Bill The year that I retired and they told me sory about that you are out of luck .I was even one of the poor Viet Nam Veterans .I was told that it did not matter, the government could do ny tning that they wanted even if it ment breaking their promise. So If you get the chance go and get all of the college that you can. I wanted to be in personal management and have a minor in Business Management .I didnot get it and had to work in my old career getting a very low wage. Go To School. I would still like to go to school.!!!!! Howard A Hebdon IN TEXAS

So you are saying unless CCAF needs it, it is not worth the military spending its time on. AFIT allows doctoral degrees taken in certain courses, but those courses can be a far cry from where an airman is jobwise (a whole other career). But some that started with AFIT can go on and complete a doctoral degree, and not come back and teach for AFIT. If you care to study longer to get a doctoral degree, it seems the AF would pay for it, as most doctorals require/fall along with a teaching certificate, and that person can be used to teach material anywhere (just give enough time to learn the material required to be taught). CCAF is very limited, only Associates degrees, so they are not applicable really to this question.
