I scored a 78 on the asvab and accepted the GI Bill and Kicker, however, I'm not sure what I'll be receiving per month from both (combined) does anybody have any idea?

"You have three programs within the G.I. Bill itself. The actual G.I. Bill which is valued up to $39,636 and that goes up every year on October 1st. However, the maximum entitlement you can claim is $72,500 as I write this. That means you can add the “Buy-up Program” which I called the kicker in previous posts. Also, you may add onto that whatever the total of College Fund you may get. That is if you get it. Like I said before you can purchase the extra $5,400 buy-up by paying in $600 into the program before you leave active duty status. The G.I. Bill and the College Fund can only be secured in the beginning of your enlistment by a host of different variables.
If you are in the military, you can’t get it. If you have yet to enter boot camp, talk with your recruiter and get it in your contract if you qualify. When asking the VA office at my college how much I should be receiving when I start school next month they said it depends. By looking at the Veteran’s GI Bill User’s Guide you can figure it out. Look at it this way, I top of the $72,500 maximum payout. So if you are in the same boat look at it this way. With the G.I. Bill at $39.636 being $1101. Take the total and divide 1101 from it which equals 36 months. That is the maximum time (4 years) that you can bank from it. With ten years from the separation date to do that. Ok, so take 72,500 and divide by 36. The answer is rounded down to 2013.89. Meaning you can expect to get a maximum of $2013.89 a month from the G.I. Bill plus buy-up and College Fund. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Please join the Fight for the New G.I. Bill at this site." That's from a post on my blog, GIBillBlog.com. I'm wondering if you have or still can pay into the Buy-Up Program. If not, then you can deduct $150 from that. Which would be 1863.89 a month. Hope that helps. If you have any more question, please ask. GIBillBlog.com |

I am active duty right now, set to EAS in 2010, when I enlisted, I got the Marine Corps College Fund put into my contract.
Does anyone know what will happen to my Marine Corps college fund under the Webb GI Bill (if it doesn't get vetoed by the President)? The new plan is so generous, I feel like I would be looking a gift horse in the mouth a little bit- but, if I am still entitled to the MC College Fund I can begin to consider private schools and other options that I previously was not. |

MV, I'm in the same boat. It appears the 2008 GI Bill is actually LESS entitlement for me. I had a 40k kicker and my GI Bill would approximately be $1700/month. Through the new program, my entitlement goes down to about $1300/month. I don't want to lose money, is there an option to opt out of the new one?!?! I mean one of the big kickers for me joining (and going into a much more complicated field) was my college fund!!

Sorry to bring back a really, really old thread but I came across it through a google search.
I qualified and will be receiving a GI kicker, but I will be in the Marine Corps Reserve. Does anyone know how much money that will break down to and how much money per month? Thanks. |
