I "attended" CTU for a year, it is a joke. They just want money. I tried to withdraw from classes but was told it was "too late and would be charged" so I continued receiving my GI Bill money. Then the school told the VA that I had withdrawn from classes at the beginning of the semester (while still charging me for the classes) and had to repay the GI bill money as well as $1000 in "administrative fees" from the VA/Dept of Treasury. And despite not attending the classes or doing any of the home work for them, I still receive calls years later asking me to re-enroll because I'm "such a good student"

I would be surprised if this school is still accredited.

This is absolutely true! I was "attending" CTU while I was living in Poland working as an English teacher. I was hoping to get my Criminal Justice degree to build a chance to join a government agency upon my return to the US.

In the first week of the five week IT literacy course, the main lesson was how to use the internet. HELLO?! It's an internet based course! If I couldn't use the net, I wouldn't be in CTU... Additionally, as I was an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher for four years, it was pretty unnerving to have an English teacher which didn't seem to be a native speaker or qualified instructor with poor grammar, punctuation and spelling skills. I was correcting HER communication all the time.

Don't waste your time on CTU. And whoever is backing CTU needs to investigate it before pushing it off onto our Soldiers, Sailors and Marines. I take it personally, having been a Devil Doc, to see our heroes made out to be fools or be taken advantage of.

I just withdrew from Colorado Tech and I WOULD NEVER recommend it to ANY fellow soldier. They are NOT Military friendly and all they care about is money. I have not spoken to one person there who knows what they are doing. I hate to sound so negative but they are really a joke in my opinion. I was sent away for 2 weeks in the Army to train a group deploying to Iraq and I sent an email to my professors and they told me to call them and I did - twice and they never returned my calls. Please do not waste you time or money to attend CTU.

in 2007 after being retired for about 7 years I was accepted to CTU. I thought it was great, everyone celebrated and then I started going. OMG!!! What a mess! They didn't care, they didn't teach, they didn't grade, all they did was give out "A"s and tell me how great my work was. After a bit of this greatness I submitted work that was horrible and I still received a great passing grade. THEY WERE NOT READING THE ASSIGNMENTS when they were submitted. I took 3 classes hoping the next would be an instructor that cared and would actually teach, it didn't happen. I wrote a letter to the dean, it was ignored, I then sent a letter to the admissions department, followed by a phone call at which point they listened. They didn't fix anything, they didn't agree to look into it, they DID agree to give me my money back. They didn't give me all my money back, just the last class and what remained in balance. I have experience with CTU and whatever the phoenix one is, both are not what I would ever attend. Further, keep in mind, a 4 yr degree in 2.5 years! You get what you pay for, going to these online SCAMs are just that a SCAM you DO NOT get a good education and the degree is only worth the paper it is printed on.

First, up front and honest: I taught at CTU for several years, until several years ago. I thought CTU was a good school and a great employer. But absolutely ANY school with somewhere around 3,000 students (2004 figures?) and God knows how many campuses around the country is going to have a few problems.
Second: I am absolutely NOT associated with the school now, or for many years; not in any way at all.
- To the individual who posted he/she would be "surprised if the school was still accredited" CTU is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, recognized by the Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education. It doesn’t get much better than that! And it has to be to take VA new/old GI bill, Vocational Rehab and state monies.
- To the poster of the "internet requirement:" you would be surprised how many new students, students I and other professors had, that didn't know the first thing about the net. They had friends get them online then leave them to work on classes. Sad to say but the majority of these students were either from very low socio-economic situations and never had a computer, or were foreign nationals.
Which is why the emphasis on English. Not only is passing a basic English course a legal requirement, but simply taking and passing the TOEFL was not a predictor of success. I had several students with the command of English suitable to order dinner, dessert and find the toilet but who did not/could not understand Accounting, Finance, History, Ethics, computer or other terms in the classroom (or online) – they slowed every else down.
CTU, as opposed to several other "internet" schools, has its stuff together - academics, accreditation, campus structure, online instruction, and so forth. CTU stayed clean in all the recent academic and fiscal investigations of colleges and universities. I would ask that you take a look at what happened to University of Phoenix!
Of course CTU has its problems. Instructors are, for the most part, adjunct instructors who are subject matter experts from their chosen industries - they do not work full time for the school. Sometimes these instructors are simply not good teachers. They may know the material backwards and forwards, but they have difficulty "teaching."
The school relies heavily on student class critiques. Sometimes some rather poor decisions are made based on the written word on the critique forms.
At the same time, I have personally seen some tremendous, positive changes occur based on those critiques. It takes both student honesty and integrity, and the same from the instructors.
CTU is filled with vets – as instructors, administrative faculty AND students. They know and understand most of the difficulties active duty and veteran students experience – much better than many of the schools I have been associated with. I took classes, while active duty, from several colleges both in the states and overseas – I could make many of the same comments about those schools as I have heard here.
CTU is a good school, give it a chance. Read your admissions paperwork, research academic requirements and go into the school with your eyes open, avoiding preconceived notions of what college “should” be like.

Please If your looking for an online class , dont enroll at CTU Online , they took away all your GI Bills and also too expensive compared to community class. I have been a student for 1 year at CTU Online and I finally found out that this University has a bad reputation and only goes for money. I disenrolled at the class and because of this I have to pay them 1600$+ and gave me 2 weeks to make a payment or else they will send it to the collection agency. It's like a punishment when you disenrolled that they took away pell grants and education partner grants so you have to pay the remaining amount.

Pell Grants and other grants, scholarships have to be withdrawn from the student if they withdraw. Most schools will send a student requesting to withdraw from a class to their financial assistance advisor as part of the withdrawal process. Many students will finish a course once they find that withdrawing will impact their financial assistance.
