My guys have tried using a Carmanah Box to cover the light out on aids. I have found that a jacket works well and Mimi, the Carmanah Rep. said to try a black panty hose. Has anyone found anything reliable to get the light to blink in the field. Thanks
Its a little tricky, but if you take your blouse off, totally cover the Carmanah, then remove your cover and add that to the mix....you'll get NOTHING! Get your SN to toss another blouse over it and then stand between the carmanah and sun to put even more shade on it....she'll wink and blink!
Chief, Thats pretty much the same thing. How about the new 8 year recharge. Now thats nice. Now they ust need to make steel hulls that will last 8 yrs. We are making them 6yr recharges on the steel hulls. that makes it easier to schedule 3 yr mooring visits. Thanks for your input.
No need for hulls with us with a life expectancy...we have mostly piles that last only about 1-6 months average. Depends on the location. Anything within the ICW will be knocked down very fast and all we do is toss a TRUB o/s until the tenders come back through and punch more piles for us. It is a never ending circle!
While I was on the Maria Bray, I had some made by the local Canvas/Upholstery Shop over there in Jacksonville. Any local shop should be able to do this. Just take them a carmanah to measure and they should be able to make one. I had mine made out of all vinyl type material, it was black, square and had a hole at the top for the lens to poke thru. I had one made for the 701 and the 702 and the price was pretty minimal
Take the box the Carmanah came in, wrap it completely in electrical tape(2-3 rolls), then cut a hole to stick the tip of the remote in right at the hight of the focal plane, and another little peep hole above to look through. Works like magic.
Have a hard charging SN/BM3 get some leather and stitch together a cover for it. You could leave 3 sides of the top unstitched for viewing purposes. You could also implement the hole that someone else had mentioned right at the focal plane level for easy programming.

Thats pretty much what we do, but we use black duct tape; we found it last's longer.
This is a box that we created and we simply place it over the top of a carmanah 701 to 704-5, turn it on and it displays the same caracteristics as the carmanah inside
A battery apron which everyone who handles our 12-v lead-acid batteries should have handy anyway, works PERFECT for simulating to transition from light to dark. Hold it on there for about 30 seconds (or till you see some blinking). Remove it. You'll still have about 60 seconds, even with sunlight now hitting it, do get your carmanah battery power and do whatever you need to do with it. I keep an apron onboard both boats. I'll admit, I dont actually WEAT it like I should when handling 12-v's. However, it's fool-proof and perfect for carmanah lighting transitions.
