We are trying to see if anyone knows of a "striker" qual package or pracs that can be used to qualify a member to be able to verify positions OTHER than going to positioning school? We currently only have two qualified people and our request for schools have been turned down the past couple of times. Thanks for any help.

Hey brother,
What we always did was take a member usually BM3 or MK3 (small ANT) and I would have them go through the steps with me. I did that a few times until they felt comfortable. Especially when you were trying to set a buoy on the old TANB. Most of the time the computer guy was under the dash yelling range and bearings to you. So the coxswain couldn't do it or shall I say shouldn't do it. After I got the buoy set I was always ease off into deeper water and bring up the APR and make sure things are good. Hdop and satelites. But I do agree a positioning JQR is a great idea. Let me know what you guys come up with up there. One day I might be back on the coast!!! John |

That is that same as what I did at the ANT. Show someone the ropes and let them run it...just verify the APR looks good before heading to the next aid or back to the unit. |

Hey y'all,
This has nothin' to do with qualifications, but just wanted to say I had a great time doin' ATON from Apr 03-Apr 05 @ ANT Milford Haven off the Chesapeake Bay in VA. Even though I've always wanted to be an AMT, I enjoyed doin' ATON while waitin' for school for 2yrs. But, would I go back? No, but again, had a great time jumpin' buoys n' light aids. "J" |
