I was planning on signing everything this week to go to boot camp in January but the other day my recruiter told me that A school for BM's has been closed until 2009. I got garunteed district so I was planning on going to district 11 out of boot camp and then if I decided I still wanted to be a BM I was going to than sign up for A school. I'm wondering if they chose to close the A school to remodel now because they don't need more BM's at the moment, which than leaves me wondering if i'll even be able to strike it for awhile. Can anyone elaborate on this? If I can and do strike BM how long would I have to be out in district 11 until I can relocate?
Not closing as far as I know. They are working on getting new curriculum approved to match the new EPQ requirements but that shouldn't disrupt the schedule much at all.
You'll always be able to strike BM because it is more difficult than putting your name on the A school list (I did both, and I finished striking before I even got orders to A). You'd be surprised at how many people will go a rate they don't really want just because they don't feel like waiting for the school or striking BM. Go to your first unit, keep a positive attitude, get fully qualified, and striking BM shouldn't be a problem. I'd also advise you to go to your first unit with an open mind, b/c you might find out that BM isn't for you, and if you had gone guarenteed A you'd be screwed. Getting non-rate time and experience is going to help further your professional development a lot more than you think it will. Good luck with bootcamp!
