I would like to start this to see how many BMs are going to put in for it and give the VETs a chance to reflect on the tour of duty.

As the BOSN stated the guidelines / requirements I do not qualify for the 110, but I am hoping for the shore side job. I have only heard good things about the jobs and would like to hear more about it if someone would like to share.

A few questions I would like to ask you.

(1) Are you putting in for it?
(2) What is your Rank?
(3) What job do you want (PB or shore duty)?

And as I said, if you have done a tour do you have any tips or sea stories you would like to tell us about?

I'm a BM1 and I am going to put in for PATFORSWA. I don't qualify for the 110 because I don't have any experience on a 110 or a DWO.
I am hoping for the shore side position.

I'm putting in for it as well - ashore and afloat. I'm a BM2 on the BM1 list, and hoping that my current certification as an NR-EMT will help make up for the fact I've got no LE experience. That, and I'm trying to get the Sector I'm located with to get me an LE qual. I've got 2.5 years underway on a PC 179' class (TEMPEST), so we'll see.

Don't count yourself out for not having a DWO letter. As long as you have the test passed you have a chance. I had a BM1 report who had no DWO letter, the optempo was so fast that he just got qualified that much faster. If anything it's a great chance to get your letter.

As far as tips, get some 110' specs to study and be ready to bust your butt for a year straight. Also ensure your security clearance is in order, there were alot of people that mysteriously never showed up in Bahrain because their clearance held them up. I got some of the best training I've had in the Coast Guard and got to work with the best group of guys imaginable. And keep your nose clean in port!!!
Follow curfew, don't drink and drive, and stay out of off limits places.

Ah ha, you caught me lurking. Boats, take a look at the solicitation message we sent. Tour completion isn't one of the things we're looking at. Obviously no guarantee's and the e-resume was due this past Sunday, but since we haven't started slating yet, if you could get the e-resume endorsed by the command by Friday, we would still take a look at you.

Did anyone who submitted for PATFORSWA on your XPO resume get an XPO job? I'm curious how this worked out since the deadlines and screening panel timelines don't seem to mesh all that well. I'm wondering how far they looked into our PATFOR potential and how it played into their consideration of our XPO resumes. My concern being that a cursory review of a resume revealed a good PATFOR candidate, hence removing them from XPO consideration. But now, when they slate for PATFOR, you don't make the cut and end up competing for general duty. Not that there's anything wrong with general duty, I'm just hoping I didn't shoot myself in the foot with the XPO slate. Maybe Bosun Kerner will stop by here and give some insight now that it's played out, but I know he's a busy man so I figured I'd poll the candidates.
