Not sure what you mean by "not too long ago," because it was at least two years ago - I was on TEMPEST when it came out, our FS1 used to love jumping over the side and scaring the crap out of non-rates. He was so disappointed when he learned he couldn't do it anymore. Check the general messages from 2007. Will link when at work tomorrow.

I seem to remember it coming out within the last year or so, maybe it was just a reminder msg. Either way, appreciate it.

Okay, I found it. ALCOAST 478/07. You actually CAN use a live man, they just changed the operating conditions. It's not internet releaseable, but you can check it. Also see COMDTINST 16134.2C and Chapter 2-60 (Swimming), Shipboard Regulations Manual COMDTINST M5000.7.

That's all I've been able to find on the subject.

I rember Oscar getting hit once or twice. Still seemed like it would be funner to just jump over. Ocsar was cool though whish I had a pic. Had a gaint goose decoy head for the head. Neck was about 2-3 ft long with about a ft of the next being in the mustang suit.

Seems like an easy way for a RFC should something go wrong.

Wray... Cool

You won't see any live man overboard drills conducted at my unit. Too many potential risks involved. Using Oscar works fine for me.

It will feel good after it stops hurting.

I think on the SEOPS drill cards it specifically states that Live man overboards will not be used to drive upon. Or something along those lines.

I did a few live ones from the small boat on the 110. The guys loved it when I would throw some things like that into the mix. As long as you are monitoring the whole picture and not just whats in front of you, and useing some common sense, I dont see what the big deal was with it.

There is a zero percent chance you will ever have to notify Mrs or Momma Oscar in company with a Chaplain and explain it.

What are the benifits of using a live person that can not be achieved with Oscar?

Also if you read in the UCMJ that is consider a bookable offense. Watched it happen to a BM2 at last unit. He was released of all duties and discharged.
