Stationed in Duluth also on the CGC Sundew (WLB-404) I was from Kingsport, TN (near the Bristol Speedway) and it was really a culture shock for me, not to mention the weather. Lake Superior froze over both winters I was there. I hear the Sundew is a museum over at the DECC now.

Stationed in Kodiak Ak on the CGC IRONWOOD (297) back in 91. I loved that ship. Wanted to stay. I want to go back to the black hull world. It was so much fun shooting the tube. The only bad thing was it stunk in there.

Wow, heading to boot camp. things have really changed in the CG since I joined. My first unit was a WPB Island Class. 82357!! 357 meaning it was like putting a gun to your head everytime you were under way.. lol. I have benn on all size cutters and stations and the first thing you have to ask your self is "Do I get seasick?" if not then shoot for a small PB, they will give you the most experience in the CG otherwise shoot for the larger cutter for the weak stomache but not as bad. If you do, station is good, prepare though, to work on the limitless task of finding something to do and no one finding something for you to do. CG is great, 30+ years for me and 20 lives saved!! Hope you enjoy!!
