So how many other people were looking to re-enlist this month right before that rug was pulled out from under you. WTF!!!! I'll say it again... WTF!!!!!!!!!!
I see recession and a draft in the future! Thank you Congress! I hope that they're pay went up this year and they didn't lose COLA!!
You should be happy you even get a bonus. Everybody complains that they didn't get enough money in there bonus or too much taxes. Thats WTF!!! Just be happy the Coast Guard Decided to give you free money in exchange for some time in service. Not only that. the difference you were going to make between a raise and or not wasn't going to be much. a few hundred dollars! That and taxes would even it out even more so you really wouldn't even notice a change.

Bonus? No, I didn't get one and I won't be getting one. That's what I was talking about. According to the message that the scared little pencil neck paper pushing bean counters so conviently released on Friday afternoon, ALL bonus' expired 31DEC. There may be a chance that later in the year they get off their a$$ and put it into law, but then what's the multiple going to be?
Yea, I don't know. I just called the YN2 and told him to hold onto the paperwork before he process' it. The paperwork I signed would be void anyway because the 3307 stated that I would be receiving a bonus. The Message(006/08)gives guidance on how to word the pg7 so if congress signs the new FY08 NDAA you will get your bonus at a later date. Crossing my fingers.
Yeah, I re-enlist next week. I appreciated the no heads up. I was planning this years investments off that bonus. I read somewhere that for those those that have already re-enlisted (since 01JAN) will have the option to back out of the enlistment if they choose to since they may not be getting a bonus now, void the contract I guess.
Damn this pisses me off. How about all the freaking Congressmen and Senators give THEMselves a freaking paycut and use that money fund bonus'!!
Give me duty, deploy me, have me run search patterns all night, but don't mess with my damn money. Where's Chuck Norris when you need him!
Did some quick research on the web it what it had to say:
2008 NDAA Veto 12/28/07 - President Bush unexpectedly announced a veto of the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) due to concerns over a provision that could make Iraqi assets held in U.S. banks vulner-able to lawsuits. The White House issued a statement saying, in part, “As soon as possible upon Congress's return in January, the Administration will work with Congress to enact the NDAA adjusted in a manner that protects Iraqi funds in the United States and that ensures that the additional pay raise for our troops is retroactive to January 1.” At this time, it does not appear that any other provisions of the NDAA will be affected - like the 3.5% military pay raise and blocking TRICARE fee increases.
Sounds like they might be able to get it worked out. I re-enlist in Feb, and would really appericiate a nice bonus.
Okay calm down guys. Go back and slowly read what the message said. Just like our pay raise that was to have started on 1 January, everything is on hold. Once the budget is passed then they will back track and pay all that is owed.
It's worded as it is because we are talking about congressional issues here. They can't say that things are for sure and will happen until such a time as a bill is passed. If you are due to or have recently re-enlisted, then you "will" get what is coming to you after they get back in session and do what we elected them to do. So just have a little patience. If you really want to spent some time writting and *****ing about this then I suggest that do that and aim it at your elected official.
And they call it a bonus for a reason, although some of you will talk big, none of you are going to cancel your contract and walk over it either.

Bruce, I think its apparent that you are a gold badge CMC for a reason. To be honest, I wish I had the opportunity to be your XPO when I was in.
All:
As Bruce clearly states, Congress isnt going to screw you over. Stop being so dramatic about everything. We go through these budget approval issues with congess every few years. I dont recall loosing anything from the last time, and one of those was a heck of a lot more serious than a pocket veto, it almost led to furloughing half of US Government employees.
I will tell you that if you do reenlist now, make sure you copy your paperwork and read the personnel regs to make sure all documentation has been completed.
It could be worse, you could be filling three full time jobs like I am, and then right when you see a light at the end of the tunnel to hire a team that you want, they place a hiring freeze on everyone for 6 months. It happens, and you adjust and move on.
There's a reason it's called a "bonus".....it is because it is not an entitlement. If the only thing that makes you stay in the CG is the sporadic bonus...well, you always have the option to walk away when your enlistment is up.
