heard some different rumors that the PSP was no longer in "effect". While the COMDT instruction remains in place, I wasn't sure if it was still the official word on gaining entrance into the Surfman Program. I'm just a click away from hitting submit on my e-resume. Thanks for any guidance.

It is still in effect, I am currently in it at MLS Yaquina Bay,OR along with about 15 other BM's. Just make sure that you meet the req. in the COMDT Instruction, get a specific CO/OINC recomendation outlining the bullets in the PSP instruction. It also helps to call the detailers when they go into the engage phase of the AY 09 for career counsuling and ASK them how to give you guidance on what your career path looks like, they will give you honest feedback as 2 of them the WEST and EAST detailers are CWO Surfman.
This came from the AY 09 BM assignment sit rep 01.
quote:
5. COMMAND ENDORSEMENTS. ENDORSEMENTS CONTINUE TO BE THE MAJOR
FACTOR IN PERSONNEL NOT SELECTED FOR SPECIAL DUTY POSITIONS SUCH AS
XPO, INSTRUCTOR, PROSPECTIVE SURFMAN PROGRAM, STRIKE TEAMS AND
TACLETS. THE MINIMUM REQUIRED CONTENTS FOR THESE ENDORSEMENTS ARE
CLEARLY LAID OUT IN CHAP 4.E OF REF A. AND REF B. ANY MEMBER
SEEKING THE ADDED PRESTIGE AND RESPONSIBILITY OF THESE KEY
ASSIGNMENTS SHOULD MAKE IT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THE
PROVIDED COMMAND ENDORSEMENT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS SET FOR IN REFS A AND B AND OBTAIN A COPY OF THAT ENDORSEMENT.

INTERNET RELEASE AUTHORIZED.
If you have any other questions there are several Surfman on here that have great deal of knowlegde and guidance and should answer your question shortly. Hopes this helps. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have, so post them up so others can get the info also in case they are looking to go into the PSP.

Also it took me several times to get in so keep working hard towards your goal. You might want to set up a profile so people know who they are giving info to. Are you a BM3,2,1 ?? Are you tour complete in AY 09 ?? Are you a Coxn on the MLB ??

Thanks Boats! I'm a BM2, MLB Coxswain. Completed Heavy Weather Schoool this past winter. Getting out to Cape D has helped fuel my desire to get into it. I understand it sort of comes down to: career enjoyemeny vs. advancement. If it takes a while to get to a surf unit I suppose I should start trying. Thanks again!
