Hey Guys, if we think there is a chance of going deep on the cuts for 2008 SWE for BMC, think again. I was reading our April 2008 Force Notes and had a chance to talk with our Rating Force Master Chief the other day, and found out some disturbing info. There are currently over 600 BMCs not eligle to take the E-8 SWE, due to not having there OIC Review Boards Passed or not attending the CPOA. That screws us! We need to rally and try to get the BMCs we work with to get this stuff done, in order to create room for us. In addition, we need to talk with our fellow BM1s also to get them striving to get their boards passed. So that this type of thing does not happen in the future. Back when I first entered our rate, I always wondered why the BMCs that I knew, always stayed BMC, now I know why, they cannot pass or choose not to take the OIC Review Boards. Well, it is hurting us now. Some other staggering stats are that; during some reading, I believe that only around 40-50 BMCs took the E-8 SWE, that is crazy! I say, to the guys that "choose" not to take the board and just take up space in the pay grade, "move up or move out", make room for the rest of us that aspire to do what our rate is all about, being in Command.

You are only partially correct on your comments. Yes, there were only 50-60 eligable to take the BMCS SWE due to the lack of OIC Certs and/or CPOACAD. Take myself for example. I'm not eligable <yet> due to lack of time in grade and the CPOACAD. My name is in the hat for the Academy and I am awaiting orders to attend, just like a long list of others. The Academy is backed up right now and the wait is longer than what it should be. If I can attend the Academy before Jan of next year, then I will be sitting on the SWE and plan on advancing to make room for YOU. You say that there over 600 BMC's that are not eligable. Correct, but also think that over 150 of those BMC's just got their anchors this past year and aren't eligable simple due to a lack of TIG.

Just some things to think about.

I am so Pi**ed off right now, I found out why I haven't received my raw score yet. PSC said that they didn't scan my test. They think it might of been a comp error and have to go through and look for my scan sheet again and manually grade it. ARgggggggggggghhhhhhhh. They need to find a better way to grade these things. They said that I should find out by the end of next week. I hope so. I leave the country for a month on Weds. If they can't find it, I wonder what they're going to do. I'd hate to have wasted my time.

Ever explore the option of going to the USAF Senior Enlisted Academy? I too have been waiting on the CPOA list for awhile... wanting to get it out of the way, go to the OIC board, and compete for BMCS. I applied and was accepted for the 31 JUL 08 class. I have heard nothing but positive things about it... If you haven't already, you should look into it. There may be seats still available.

I've thought about it, but will wait and see if I get a seat in Petaluma this summer or fall. I turned down one offer for a seat in the March/April class due to CCTI and PCS transfer happening already, so we'll have to wait and see what somes up.

Well I believe a lot of people are using the CPOA as an exuse. Everybody that I have known that has made Chief in the past 2-3 years has gone to the academy relatively fast after they were pinned. As a matter of fact, I have seen frocked Chiefs go. I am not buying that as an exuse, I bet if you were to do some research, that you would find that every BMC, that is not eligible, it is due to a large percent of them not willing to get the board done or attend the CPOA. I am sorry, but I have known a lot of really good 18-20 year BMCs in the Guard, that are really comfortable with non-Command Cadre jobs that just need to move on. It is my time now, as well as many others.

True. Some people do use it as an excuse and will continue to do so. As for the BMC's that are sitting in non Command jobs...let them, plain and simple. This way if YOU want the command job, then it will be available as the other guys don't want it. Is it your time to advance? Maybe. You have to remember that the advancement process goes through cycles every so often of quick advancements followed by slower cycles. They seem to be averaging over 150 BMC's per year. That number seems pretty decent to me! If it is YOUR TIME, then you need to make sure that you are in the top 150+ of the over 600 taking the test. I wouldn't want someone who wrote worse than that being my boss!
