I am far away from any CG Exchange or UDC. No one has the untucked ODU, but I hear people are wearing them. Newbies from bootcamp are still wearing old style ODU's, but with a different style belt. Any word on the full untucked ODU uniform?

I know that some units are prototyping it I think it's Woods Hole and some TACLET not sure. It's out there on an experimental basis.

Last I heard the new ODU would be out MAR 2008. Not holding my breath though.

I really shouldn't hold mine either, I remember how long they talked about the ODU to begin with when we were wearing the Working Blue.

Woods Hole was the test group for the ODU trial the first time. They were wearing them a full year and a half before anyone else. How about spreading the wealth around a little and let other units prototype new gear.

I was kind of wondering the same thing. Is there any particular reason why Woods Hole has become the test center for uniforms? Do they do things differently there than at any other staion? Or how adout a cutter? Or an ANT team? If you want to test durability, I would think AtoN is where you would want to go.

Just curious.

Woods Hole is located on Cape Cod.
The CG Air Station is located at Otis AFB on Cape Cod, 20 minutes drive to Woods Hole.
HQ types can fly up to the A/S, do an evaluation, grip & grin, make a run to the local lobster pound, load up the coolers for a cut rate feast come the week-end back in DC. Easy Friday boondoggle mission. Wink

previous CG method of operations.

Roger that. So with that being said, it sounds like they (HQ)could care less about the quality of the testing of a uniform, and more about the appearance that they care, or just a formality. I'm sure there is a tender closer to HQ that they could test the uniforms on. Again, if they can stand up to the rigors of buoy work, they're good enough for me.

And who decides where the testing takes place? The logical answer would be the UDC? But then that would make to much sense.

Just to be clear, it was Group Woods Hole that tested the ODU's. which included 9 stations, 2 ants and three cutters, not including the Ida, Juniper or Willow because I believe they work for the district and cant remember if they also tested the uni's. They were also tested by Group's support staff, admin and yard personnel. I'd say it was a petty diverse selection, and like it was said, the air station being right there was also probably a deciding factor.

Thanks for the info. That makes much more sense. I was under the impression that just the station was testing them. Thanks Shaster.

How do you like Guam? I spent my first year and a half in the CG out there on the Basswood. I'm sure your probably still hearing stories about the 'Wood years later. Is the Texas Club still up and running?

We had the polyester CG blue bermuda shorts and unit T-shirts as a standand uniform out there pretty much year round while I was there in the late 80's. Guam would be a great place to test hot-wx gear.

Well, I hear about the Basswood alot. Guam is pretty much Station Vacation. Not as much as it use to be 2 1/2 years ago when I first got here, but we still have it pretty easy. Club Texas is still around, but not many people go. It too has gone downhill over the years, not that I have ever been, nor do I want to go after all the stories I have heard. There are plenty of other crazy places around here though. Especially Saipan.

I would love to get out there again sometime. I would love get the wife to go with me and show her Talafofo Falls and Black Sand Beach, and some of the old hang-out's. Well, maybe not ALL of the old hang out's. Wink

Take it all in while you're there. I guarantee you that you will miss it when you're gone.

The other day the d17 CMC came to see us and said that the new uniforms should be out some time after Sept. of 08. And that the Coast Guard is waiting for the stock pile of ODUs to decrease then the Coast Guard is going to sell them to another country. Then we will get the new one.
