Has anyone on here been to the BM "A" School? The reason I ask, I am getting back into the Reserve, but I got out just over 10 years ago as a QM and there is no way that I am going to get a waiver after that long a period. I am in the IT field now, but if I do not get picked up for that, I might as well do something fun again in the Coast Guard. Was just curious what anyone had to say about it. It is either BM or MST ... I think the choice gets easier the more I think of it.
BM A school is undergoing a curriculum change right now, I doubt most here would have first hand experience with how it's going unless they're instructors at the school. If you do a search of this forum (look at the tabs on the main BM page located right above the first post) you will find a wealth of information regarding the school, changes, and other things of interest.

I'm an Underway instructor (UTB Cox'n) for the school.
Here's some facts: The "hands on" underway portion of the school has gone from 5 days to 15. You come down to the small boats during weeks 4, 7, and 10 for small boat crewman based training (towing, MOBs, anchoring, boat handling, nav, ect).
My advice: Unless you like heat and humidity, come in the fall, winter or spring if you have any say in the matter. Summertime gets to be miserable on the good old York River for cold loving folks such as myself.
