Dealing with their trash talk is best done while they are buying you a beer.

Remind them they are also serving the “greater purpose” – Keeping the gun platform mobile!

Obviously you are not yet a Coxswain..... Razz
It is worth it to make it back to the station when something other than the impeller burns up!

Well since most of the small boats I run are under warrenty or contracted out, mk's don't do much anymore (unfortunatly).

I've got mad respect for my brother MK's, they are hard working mofo's who moreoften than not are the ones sweating in the bilge at 2300 to bring the boat back up.

Of course they'll never be as awesome as a BM but hey, nobody's perfect. Wink

I would befriend your MK's. The boats can't move unless they fix them. A lot of the time they are fixing things we broke.

I am a big supporter of MKs. They are a huge part of Coast Guard. I never met one that I did not respect.

In my present job, which I've had for over thirty years, the engineer is a valuable member of the crew.

You could just trash talk back like I do, if its all in fun, then its no big deal, then, like the other guy said, buy them a beer, and you'll get one in return. Don't ever hug though..... unless you underway, then its OK

All you need to do is remind them that you can either be a Boatswains Mate...or you can work for one.

I look at it as a Boatswainsmate/Coxswain without a good MK is like a MLB pitcher without a skilled catcher. You need both for it all to work.

Just Remember BM's are not operational without a MK. Yes sometimes you work for a BM, however if the MK doesn't fix it again, the unit is not operational. So who really works for who. It takes all to be operational and don't remember of I being in team. A good BM is the one that helps not watches while others work........
