Hey fellow BMs, need some help - I'm trying to find a PDF copy of COMDTINST M1414.8 - most recent. In particular, with the E-3 SN and FN performance quals. I've searched high and low, all over the place. I can find a million different - and current - messages, etc. referring to the manual. But the most recent one I found was from 2001, and only had rating-specific PQs - nothing for the E-3 advancement. If anyone can find it or has a copy, PLEASE hit me up - BM2 Benjamin Atkins in global. Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: I've also heard rumors before that the E-3 pracs for FN and SN just don't exist anymore - that after your 6 months, you're good to go. But I haven't heard it from a competent source or seen it in writing. I could see that as just being a CO/OINC thing "Yeah, he's a good worker and he's been here a while, we can defer the pracs and advance him."

try googling m1414.8, I got the 2001 "c" version. Don't know if there is a more recent one than that. Good luck.

That's the one I found, but it has nothing for E-3s.

There is no such thing as SN or FN EPQs and has not been since ~2001. No courses either.

Okay Master Chief, that's what I'd thought and that's what I'd heard. But I've got an MKCS insisting on it and so I'll need something in writing - and believe me, I've done all the searching I can think to do. A decade's worth of ALCGENLs to start. Can you help me with a nudge in the right direction for where to find this information? V/r, BM2 Atkins

Boats;
It was a 2001 ALCOAST I believe. Saw it in a brief last week. Interestingly enough, the brief was presented by the MK RFMC. The old ALCOASTs are not currently available on the web. Maybe Senior would be good with "...the OS RFMC said that the MK RFMC has all of the info at hand..."

GromitCU - the only thing they will need to do is the PBQ for E-3 and wait their 6 months. You can find those at the CG Learning Portal. Like Master Chief said, no test or SN/FN practs.

A "prac" is a colloquialism used within the Coast Guard, usually to describe a certain task or skill that must be demonstrated. This can be for EPME's, JQRs, PQS, etc. It comes from the old system of having "practical factors" (hence, calling it a "prac"), which has since been replaced. Even though "practical factors" no longer exist, the slang of "prac" has stuck around in the Coast Guard in such a way that virtually all Coasties who hear that word would still know exactly what was being talked about.
