I do, although when the XPO assignment msg came out last week, my current job was unfilled. They are soliciting for someone right now. Either way, I'm headed to Lorain next Spring/Summer. I have a tentative COC for 06June08. Remember, XPO's are not required an on site relief....as long as I have someone there to take care of things temporarily until the new guy(gal) shows up, then I'm outta there!

many people don't want to go to ships........away from home, family, and the cush duty schedule of a shore unit.

I by no means direct this at the posters above me. Many of the folks that have already posted above have done tours afloat already........

How can they avoid going to sea when the enlisted in a seagoing service? Seems it's a bit of a gamble joining the CG and then hoping not to go to sea.

I agree with you Ex CG..........however, I am by no means backing them up, or agreeing with them, but, there are people in todays CG that I serve with that try to stay away from anything that leaves the dock for more than 7 days.

Here is a brief overview of my unit.
Out of app. 42 people, only 11 have been on a boat that leaves the dock for more than 7 days at a time..........I have a BM1 that has only been to small boat stations. However, he does want to go to a polar or large cutter.

But yes, in todays CG there seems to be a large group of people that want to stay ashore.
Is is a gamble?????????

Yes! (and an unreasonable one at that!)

I suppose it is natural to have fewer underway billets now. When I was in Ocean Station consumed a lot of assets. There must have been close to 30 WHEC's then. 255's, 311's, 327's and 378's.

Once that role disappeared so did a lot of the ships.
