I'm not a BM much less a surfman but wanted to let you know about a video that went up today on the Coast Guard Channel. We worked with the Lifesaving Station at Chicamacomico and the active duty crews at Station Hatteras Inlet and Station Oregon Inlet. I think it turned out to be a good piece and is a precursor to our Wave Warriors project we hope to finish soon.

Check it out here:
Lifesaving Service

Thanks,
Tam

I watched the video and really enjoyed it.

I can remember Breeches Buoy drills at Hampton Beach Lifeboat Station in the early 60s.

The Weather Channel had nice piece from 2005 on the CG yesterday. They showed Station Gloucester and Cape D. Pretty interesting....

Storm Stories did a special that includes 5 ep. of Coast Guard Storm Stories. Most of the footage was from Station Gloucester. I was Station there during that time.

After almost two years on the Chase (Boston) and close to a year at Merrimac River, I then went to BM "A" and "C" school.

I put in my dream sheet that listed the first five in New England, Gloucester being one of them. The powers that be at the school gave me Station Islamorada in the FL Keys. Now I grew up in Portsmouth, NH so I came very close to swapping with a guy from the school who did get Gloucester but wanted Islamorada.

Something told me it was time for me to see a new part of the U.S. so I took the Islamorada spot and was at that station from 85-88.

Everything I've ever heard about Gloucester, and seen since I passed through there by boat a few times, gave me the impression that it is a great place to serve in the Coast Guard.

Then again, if I hadn't gone to the Keys, I never would have had a clue about the Customs Marine Program which I later served 17 yrs with.

Stay safe,

Don

I was stationed at Straightsmouth Lifeboat Station in Rockport when it was a Group Gloucester unit.

I liked the area. With the decline in the fishing industry, Gloucester, in my opinion, is not the same.

The best Fish and Chips I've had were at The Studio on Rocky Neck. Well, maybe a close tie with Mashpee on Cape Cod.
