Can't remember the name, but he was killed in Alexandria, Va trying to take a Confederate flag down that was displayed at a private residence. If I remember right, the homeowner was killed too.
Gumby...dammit you are right again. Elmer E. Ellsworth was a 24 year old colonel and the first to die in the war. He led the first Union troops to go south. He was shot by an innkeeper while taking down a Confederate flag in Alexandria VA.
There was a Major Phillip Dune posted at Ft Scott Kansas Territory that was in St Louis, Mo just pryor to the St, Louis riots caused by Gen'l Nathanila Lyon. He was kicked in the head by Lyon's horse which reacted to the MO, state guard as they fired a volly before stacking arms to surrender to federal troops.
