I sincerely hope that ordmate is doing okay and responding well to his chemo. I also hope that there's a new computer coming on line for him. Its been lonely without Chuck's comments.
I've finally finished getting my new tack bought for my MacClellan. New blanket, valise, bit, bridle, reins and pommel holsters.
We are in the works for buying a new piece of property and home. Once settled in, next spring, I'll be looking for a fresh mount. Been out of the saddle toooooo long. Everybody have a good Thanksgiving. Thrust, have a good one!

Welcome back ordmate. My grandmother got diagnosed with cancer in 1990 and she's still kicking. If you can sweat it out on the gundecks then I'm sure you're made of the stuff to live through this too

Well shipmates and brothers-in-arms, I am back and that was one of the longest weeks of my life! Thanks bangfixr, I know she made it up there and is at peace.
One good thing that did happen my oldest son, YN1 Hinkle, came up from Memphis with my new daughter-in-law alongside.
I kinda figured when I didn't hear anything from him for a couple of months he'd taken the plunge again. His wife died fourteen months ago and he's got this new lady in his life. Hope she makes him happy!

Well,Welcome to the club my friend. I always say that what I know about the civil war is exceeded only by what I don't know.

As Ordmate relates, the Civil War is a never ending learning experience. I have been VERY busy lately and this is the first time I've checked the threads in a few days. Been doing one of my old jobs, only this time for myself. We are converting open space on the third floor of our new house into bedrooms. So I've been framing the last few days. .....and I will say, It was a damn sight easier twenty five years ago!!! Finally got all the framing done, and tomorrow we'll start putting in the wiring.
I have been re-reading Coddington's "The Gettysburg Campaign, A Study in Command." I read it in 1994 and since then I've picked up alot more knowledge. Really enlightening to re-read it and consider things a bit different now. I also picked up The Photographic History of the Civil War, that has the section on the Navies. I got ahold of David Howarth's "Lord Nelson." Been looking for that one. Nelson has always been one of my favorites. I have been aboard HMS Victory and wow, what a time that was!!!!! (November 1975) Got to go now, as Mrs. Claus needs some help wrapping things.
Take care guys and Merry Christmas!!!!!

OFC

In my opinion Hampton ,Stewart, Forrest & Mosby were the best the South had!

Welcome aboard ALL American. Thats what makes this thread intreesting. We all have an opinion on who was the best. I see nothing wrong with yours.

OFC, There were three "theaters", If you will, The trans mississippi was the third one.Akansas,Louisiana,Missouri,Texas,Kansas & what became Oklahoma. I will mention New Mexico territory ,Colorado & California.

I'm still going with the western man Gen'l John Buford as he spent time in the north western frontier.

I'v also read that the insident never happened. But I wasn't there so it immaterial. Wasn't mosby the same one that made the raid into Ohio and lost a lot of people ?

Bangfxr,I don't have a problem wuth your choice. I have read many recounts of the mans life. He was a brillient Cavalry officer and never received the recognition he deserved. Several Officers stated that if not for General Buford holding the High ground at Gettysburg the north would have been beaten on the first day. The sad results were ,the man was wounded and Died six months later of his wound's and pneumonia.

Forrest was elected as the grand wizard in 1867. The KKK was organised in 1866 near Polaski,TN. He disbanned the KKK and resigned from his position because of it's activites. The order of dissolution was given in 1869. The K.K.K. came back under new ( Management)? then became what every one should have hated. The original KKK was to fight against the Carpetbagger's and the form of non self rule that was imposed on the south by the benelovent government of the aggresser's from Washington D.C.. In a speech to the members of the K.K.k.,He,Forrest stated ,:I will not shoot a negro while there are radical republicans that need killin.
