It's impossible to make out any details from the photo in the article as it's small and blurry but there's no mistaking the signature "stove pipe" hat on the one figure. If it is indeed a photo of President Lincoln arriving at Gettysburg, what a rare and extraordinary find it is!

As far back into the background as he, (lincoln) was in this photo there should be no black at all. Even the face is surrounded with black as in beard/hat...Neva Hoppen, an add on/in. He should have had a brown look. No definate Black contrast possible. Had he been there at this time someone would have tried to assinate him from either the North or the South. He was most unpopular at this time of the war.

Sorry moderator...it jest don't add up.

I to question the authentisity of that photo.
I have several period Card D'vista's, glass plate and Dagrough type photos that are differant shades of brown. When a period photo has 1 individual that is black where everyone and everything is differant shades of brown well it means that is a doctored photo. Sorry but someone is trying to pull the wool over someones eye's as I see it.

Well, as I said, if it is indeed an undiscovered photo of Lincoln at Gettysburg, it's a rare and exceptional find. As the story states, some Civil War experts think it is and others don't. I prefer to reserve judgement until it's proven/disproven beyond a reasonable doubt and not dismiss it out of hand.

Ace Maker;

I should have put this in my reply. You only see the Calvary in the foreground. None could be seen behind lincoln or to the sides. He stood out too much for the distance he was away from the camera.

As intrigued as I am of the days of the Civil War I too would never rule out a possibility of any document, photo or artifact from this era. As much as I disagree with lincoln’s tactics in securing our Nations borders so to speak, I do think he played a tremendous roll in making our country what it is today. He was a fascinating person and the most talked about President of these United States today and most likely forever.

If that was Lincoln in that picture you can rest assure there would be Voo-Coo’s of the Union Calvary surrounding him. I don’t believe that even back then and especially under the circumstances lincoln would have rode through crowds of civilians on horseback without the aid of his body guards or at least the Calvary around him. That and the black outlines is what make the picture look fake if nothing else.

Remember, in today’s world you can antique and make photographs look like they were taken even back in that era of time.
