"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale,
and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled or hanged." President Abraham Lincoln Give a man enough rope and he'll hang himself. Travis |

Heres a quote for you Travis.Taken from a speech given by Honest Abe in 1858 in Charleston Illinois"I am not,nor ever have been in favor of bring about in any way the social or political equality of the white and black races.I am not now nor ever have beenin favor of making voters or jurors of negroes,nor of qualifying them to hold office,nor of intermarrages with white people.There is a physical difference between the white and black races which will forever forbid the two races living together on social or political equality.There must be a position superior and inferior,and I am in favor of assigning the superior to the white man. Abe Lincoln 1858

Hello Sarg Dave;
Yup, lincoln was worried about tax money loss from the South...not of the suffering of slaves...after all there were too...Black slave owners and too, don't forget...General Grant owned four slaves and was taken to court after the war to make him release those slaves he owned. Jest thought I'd throw this in. Travis |

Anoter thing history books fail to mention is the fact that just as many blacks fought for the south as for the north.

How about just a little historical accuracy if you're going to selectively take Lincoln's own words to use against him?
And, from his speech three weeks earlier in Ottawa, Illinois: Now, gentlemen, I don't want to read at any greater length, but this is the true complexion of all I have ever said in regard to the institution of slavery and the black race. This is the whole of it, and anything that argues me into his idea of perfect social and political equality with the negro, is but a specious and fantastic arrangement of words, by which a man can prove a horse-chestnut to be a chestnut horse. [Laughter.] I will say here, while upon this subject, that I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the States where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so. I have no purpose to introduce political and social equality between the white and the black races. There is a physical difference between the two, which, in my judgment, will probably forever forbid their living together upon the footing of perfect equality, and inasmuch as it becomes a necessity that there must be a difference, I, as well as Judge Douglas, am in favor of the race to which I belong having the superior position. I have never said anything to the contrary, but I hold that, notwithstanding all this, there is no reason in the world why the negro is not entitled to all the natural rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence, the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. [Loud cheers.] I hold that he is as much entitled to these as the white man. I agree with Judge Douglas he is not my equal in many respects-certainly not in color, perhaps not in moral or intellectual endowment. But in the right to eat the bread, without the leave of anybody else, which his own hand earns, he is my equal and the equal of Judge Douglas, and the equal of every living man. [Great applause.] This is the last I am going to say on the subject. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to express it but I've seen enough hyperbole, vitriol, and selective use of people's words in the five threads that have been started on it. |

I have no intention (right now) of shutting down the thread; I simply have no further desire to partake in any discussion of the subject in which hyperbole, exaggeration, and vitriol seem to be the extent of "discussion". I will, however, be monitoring the boards closely. |

Be advised, Travis..I do not take lightly to being called out, tested, or confrontational attitudes. Don't push it any further. This is the only warning I'm going to give. |

I'm still here. You'd think you had the power to stop my free speech...What's up??? I thought by now I'd be receiving an E-Mail saying that my views are no longer required. Hmmmmmm, it looks like Military dot com reserves the rights of free speech. If this is true...I'm proud to be a part of Military Dot Com and thanks to the Administrator for this right. Travis |
