I'm not familiar with the pottawome massacre. I know of a Marias des Cygnes Massacre. John was a religious heratic from connetticut with a lot of Insanity his hs ancestery. He was Interested in doing one thing and that was Killing anyone that didn't follow his ranting's or beliefes. I have visited the site several times. The only reason there were any suverviors is that one of the proslavers was a mason as one of the free staters. The free state Mason would not shoot a brother mason. He was shot in the arm and fell down, one of the slain proslavery people fell on him and his life was spared from the coup de gras/shot to the head.

To my friend thrust
Your small post speaks volumes on the history of John Brown

Outside of those five on the Pottowatomie, all the slavers Brown & Co. killed were in pitched battles. The most famous, of course, was at Harper's Ferry in 1859, where Brown took hostages and took good care of them.

The same could be said for the slaves - that they were taken care of. Hostage taking for a moral crusade isn't the best way to show moral superiority.
Even assuming that it was fair of him to provoke violence against southern settlers (and to kill them and mutilate their bodies) as long as they were killed in "battle," it still was provoked by the murderous Puritan inclination. War and terror are two sides of the same coin. Alas, any supposed fairness didn't stop John Brown from conspiring to radicalize a population for the express purpose of mass murder, mutilation, and torture. It doesn't matter any more though, since kidnap and murder are commonplace thanks to the 14th Amendment which promotes the illegal invasion, resulting in an average of 38 deaths a day (half from traffic, the other half from gang or other random violence).
The price of defeat weighs on us still today. If it were possible to combine this with the murders and rapes committed since the 1960's, with the segregation by fiat of the hypocritical civil rights movement and the subsequent radicalization of the disparate populations, the death toll from evolving Puritanesque propaganda should be much higher. Even today, Puritanism reveals itself in many forms: In the past, they used the name of God and their ignorance to justify cheating others and destroying everything they had (while profiting from the slavery that they would hypocritically condemn). Now they assume moral superiority for any number of reasons (veganism, atheism, anti-libertarianism) but the fundamental component of the Puritan is the same: They want anyone who does not agree with them and assimilate to be wiped out.

Gentleman
Allow me to go away from the civil war thread for a short time. My son and I went to see the Movie Valrike this past weekend. I thought it was great. I think it sheds a lot more light on why the Geermans lost the war. I never seen so much procrasitnating and indesition in my life. It would be worth your time to see the movie. Another movie that should be great is :Grand Torino W/Clint eastwood. Please excuse my dieviation from the main topic.

Valkyrie was a pretty good movie. Paths of Glory is also good and kind of similar in theme, but from the French perspective in WW1.
