I recently enlisted in the USAF and was guaranteed a TACP job after meeting all of the qualifications, including the PAST. Now I was told that they are no longer guaranteeing spec ops positions. Does anyone else know why this may have changed, and what is the likeliness of getting selected for TACP, especially now that I am available for other jobs. Is the selection entirely merit based?

??????

No one is, or ever has been, guaranteed SOF positions out straight out of training, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say Spec Ops posits.

You're are welcome to send me a PM.

For the record, except for a small handful, I am in charge of all SOF TACPs.

Airborne qualification is not a core task or qualification requirement for award and retention of the TACP 3-skill level AFSC. Thus such qualification will not be in a GTEP enlistment contract.

Selected members awarded a TACP 3-skill level receive airborne training (Course L5AZA1T231-001, Airborne Parachutist, at Ft Benning, GA) as part of the accession process based on their first duty assignment. Thus a member of TACP AFSC can spend 30 years in the careefield assigned to supporting non-airborne Army units and never get airborne qualification.

Special Operations is not a skill task or a qualification, thus special operations will not be guaranteed in an enlistment contract as there is nothing to guarantee.

Unless core task requirements for award of AFSC changes, military airborne (static line) parachutist qualification as a core skill/qualification required for award of 3-skill level AFSC is limited to Pararescue, Combat Control, SOWT, and SERE.

Unless core task requirements for award of AFSC changes, military freefall parachutist qualification as a core skill/qualification required for award of 3-skill level AFSC is limited to Pararescue.

Depending at perspective of mission ready qualification required for assignment to first duty assignment, it can be legitimately claimed military freefall qualification is also a 3-vel requirement for all members holding CTT 3-vel and higher AFSC. However, mandatory opportunity to obtain this qualification does not happen until after 3-skill level is awarded.

Yes. In WA the 116th is the TACP Sqn, the 111th is the ASOC, and the 194th is the ASOG. I'm the Op Sup at the 116th, so if you have questions about any of the organizations I can put you in touch with the right folks.
