Has anyone here crosstrained into the Targeteer job for the Predator? If I remember right, it is a 1N job but I wasn't able to find out much about it.

I originally heard of a new squadron standup a few years ago and that there would be a need for crosstrainees but I never heard anything about it since and I am pretty interested in getting back into AFSOC.

Any ideas?

I think you are talking about the PSO or predator sensor operator. They all started as 1N's but now are taking all flying AFSC's. The first career aviators to go were the sensor operators from gunships 1A4x1. I have a friend at Nellis witht the 3rd SOS which is the unit you are referring to I think.

A majority of the PSO's in the 3rd SOS (new AFSOC unit) are from the 1A career fields.

I have heard that the long term intent is to have all PSO's positions fed by the 1A career fields.

If you look on equal plus there is a permanent listing for PSO in every flying AFSC. Maybe not 1A8, but I don't know for sure about that one. The poor part is you don't continue to acrue gated months of flying if you go to that job. You keep CFIP, but not months towards the next gate.

Are you serious?
Why would they put flyers in the predator booth? It's been a 1N1 position, I suppose the sensor ops have their own AFSC now, or maybe it's still in the works.
Stupid

I haven't really been around the block - but I have typically heard of the term "targeteer" as bein a 1N0 job. But, whatever.

Traditionaly, the job of the targeteer was to scrub potential targets and identify DMPI (Desired Mean Points of Impact) for the sorties assigned to the varioius FRAG O's.

With that in mind, and understanding of both the jobs of 1N's in that role and PRED SO's in executing those missions, the deliniation of duties/roles is going in the right direction.

My advice to those 1N's out there that feel slighted by the current trend toward outfitting PRED "booths" with flyers (1A's and rated pilots) would be to retrain and get their wings.

Nuff said???

Whatever they want to do
I didn't mean it in terms of feeling slighted - I could care less
I meant it in terms of "if the Air Force has so many extra bodies air worthy and ready to fly that they don't need to be an actual plane, it must be a great plan"
Don't forget - based on recent comments by SECDEF I would expect the predator program to be bulking up sometime in the near future.
