Sorry i know this stuff has been asked alot but i can not find a positive answer. I am suppose to be going to Meps this friday and i was hoping to try and apply for TACPs. Now from what i have read I'm pretty sure there is a PAST. My recruiter said that you do not take that till after basic and right before starting. But, I'm also seeing you take it at MEPS from some people. Can someone please give me some information? Thanks, Tyler

Most classification into TACP is done at BMT. Unlike PJ AFSC, TACP is not a 100% GTEP AFSC. CCT sort of is a 100% GTEP, but apparently the AFSC still recruits for volunteers at BMT. Unless you have a GTEP enlistment for TACP there is no pre enlistment PAST given for TACP. Unfortunately very little is published in AFIs concerning TACP PAST. I can find some career field documents indicating PAST, but the accession, retraining (cross training) AFIs and recruiting service policies do not compliment these career field documents. What this means is if there is no PAST criteria/standards directing recruiting service to administer a PAST, no pre enlistment PAST will be administered to an applicant until after reporting to BMT. The good news is there is a PAST standard (run and calisthenics) for TACP and it was disclosed by a member of TACP AFSC on another recent forum thread.

Thanks! I am set up to go to MEPs tomorrow. My recruiter is now saying to just put 5 jobs in a similar field down tomorrow. and once i get back and know I can pass the PAST he will set me up to take it, then he will be able to get TACP guaranteed since I will then be qualified. I'm just worried i may not get TACP guarenteed even after passing the PAST and not know what to do. any help?

Not really. Getting a GTEP if you meet all the requirements is not the problem. The difficulty is how many openings for TACP AFSC the Air Force needs to fill during the fical year. You can sit with a GTEP enlist agreement until the end of time if there is no funded manpower/training slot to put you into. I do not know enough (like nothing) about current TACP manning needs to give you a more firm answer.

Go to www.romad.com and register for the message board. Hang out in the Ask a Recruiter forum and browse through past posts, they explain this situation and what to do. Contact them if necessary and explain to them what is going on. They are the people who will recruit you in BMT.
