I would love to join the Armed Forces-Active Duty. But I am having some problems. I am not married but I do have a 1 yr old daughter; would my daughter be able to get benefits form any armed branch when i join.

On the assumption that you could get in (which is a huge assumption right now), your daughter would get full benefits when you have legal custody.
That was phrased that way specifically because a single, custodial parent cannot join active duty. There are only two ways for you to join at this point -- get married or completely relinquish your custodial rights. If you choose the latter, such as relinquishing your rights to your parents, you could not have her living with you at all. You can't try the wink and nod of saying that someone has custody but the custodial person and your daughter are living with you. You truly have to be single or married. You also will not receive BAH w/dependents and will live in the barracks. If there is a court order for you to pay child support then you may get BAH Diff, which is approximately 1/3 of BAH w/o dependents, to help defray the expense of child support. With that order, you could also provide medical benefits for your daughter. You can find many discussions on this in any of the Joining forums. |
