If anyone could give me any pointers on this is would be great. I recently found out I was pregnant-one day after my fiannce deployed to Fort Bragg, on his recent 1 week leave we got married, but now he's gone again for the next seven months. The military confuses me more than I can say. My now husband told me that he is gonna try and do all he can, but he's going to be overseas in a few days and we haven't even been able to get the marriage certificate issued for him to get anything started and I am just trying to figure out how, if it is possible w/o him here to get into the DEERS program, because that is what to my understanding is the first thing to do, to then try and get an I.D. card to then get on tricare. I know all of the above must sound confusing, but that's because I'm very confused. So if anyone could help me I would be so apprectiative!!
Have him go to Legal and get you a Power of Attorney that specifies you have the ability to do all the stuff you just listed. That way you are able to take your Power of Attorney, and your marriage certificate, along with your social security card and your state issued id, to enroll yourself in Deers, Get an Id card, and get enrolled in tricare at the nearest base to you.
You're spot on too Brat! That is the ONLY way to get things done OP. Just make sure the POA has everything on there: real estate/housing, banking stuff, insurance stuff, "God forbid" stuff, etc...
If he is at Fort Bragg right now and I'm back up in Illinois is there still anyway for me to get a POA, is there a way for him to get one in the few days that he is still at the base or is it too late for that to happen?
To get your information into DEERS he needs a copy of the marriage certificate and your personal information. For you to get an ID you need a POA. For Tricare Standard you are enrolled when you are entered into DEERS, so you will have a co-pay and yearly deductible. If you want to change to Prime then you will need your ID.

Yes he should be able to get you a POA here. There are several JAG offices. If he is due to deploy, from my understanding he can just go into the office and tell them what is needed and they take care of it right there for him. (At least they did when I had to go to JAG for something last year).
