New grey area retiree, so have been away from the military for a while. Just turned 60 so am eligible for Tricare but am still working with decent civilian insurance so have the following questions (no MTF's are in the area):
1. In reading thru the on-line info, it seems I am automatically in Tricare Standard. Is there anything I need to do to "activate" this coverage or notify anyone that I am now eligible? I am drawing retirement $, so assume I'm "registered" as retired in the "Tricare system". 2. Since my civilian insurance will continue to be my primary insurer, can I use Tricare as a secondary insurer to pay any costs, deductibles, co-pays, etc. that the primary insurer does not cover? 3. Does the deductible have to be met before prescription costs are covered? How does one go about "enrolling" with express scripts to begin the prescription coverage? Any feedback or other information on getting started is appreciated. Thanks. Ron |

1) Once you get your ID card showing your status, it would automatically show that you have tricare standard.
2) Because of laws and the fact that you have another health insurance Tricare would become your second payer. As for paying costs and deductables, I think its going to depend on if your provider accepts Tricare or not. 3) When it comes to perscriptions, you pretty much just pay 3, 9 or 21 depending on the perscription. Your perscription coverage is automatic. Congrats!! |
