Am I the only one upset about the increasing oil/gasoline prices? I have watched the prices go up on food and fuel since January and not a peep from those on this forum. Milk prices have increased rather rapidly as well.
Any comments?

Dave.....I'm normally biteing my tongue on this one . But will make but a few comments on this topic . I honestly feel , that with all the money we " pumped " into Iraq for it's rebuild . I would think that all the " crude " that comes out of the ground in that country . Would be shipped to the U.S. of A. at extremely discounted prices....and sold to the refiners here.....with the understanding that , they are to " re-coup " their expenses of refinement , with a " fair " profit for their efforts , and pass the " savings " on to the consumers of America . No " baiting and switching " on " barrel " cost . As they are doing currently .
If the oil prices the oil companies of American pay today increase today.....then the already refined gasoline from previously purchased oil at lower prices , takes on the " newly " increased prices of the higher priced crude . Increasing their profit margin . Only consumer industry in America , that can do this .

Dave....the old motto " Let the buyer beware " , applies more so today , than at any other time in our history .....!

Dave.......PS..... to this subject . I purchased gas on Wednesday ( 03-02-05) afternoon here locally in SouthWest Ohio . It was $1.80 a gallon for regular . Wednesday afternoon is the normal deadline for price increases here locally . I have not been out yet this morning.....I'm sure it's up at the $2.00 mark or beyond....just as it is in your region....!

Sam's vary from place to place. $1.79 at one and $1.90 at another. Murphy Oil Co. at Wal-Mart was $1.80 last night, 3-3-05.
Wait until it goes to $2.50 per gallon as predicted for Spring and lasting.

I was out most of the morning here.....the pumps are " pegged " at $2.09 , everywhere I went . Dave....try buying your gas in mid-week . They usually take the " week-end " prices back down sometime on Tuesday at the latest . After they are through " bending everybody over " .
Make it a point to get your " fill-up " either on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning....without fail . I saved thirty ( actually .29 ) cents a gallon this week , by filling before the price increase on Wednesday .
Dave.....you got to learn to play the game.....!

Come on Wade! I drive 50 miles from Portsmouth one way to Chillicothe weekdays, except Thursday, when I work in the Portsmouth VA Clinic. Then from my office to various outposts including Columbus 55 miles more north, Pomeroy 80 miles east of Chillicothe, or 45 miles to Wellston and some days to Huntington, WV for Board hearings before the Veterans Law Judge which is 95 miles from Chillicothe. Ironton is always on the last Wednesday and that is 20 or so miles from Huntington. When I am lucky I will have the Huntington Hearings early in the mornings and drive straight from Portsmouth (45 miles) and save a bunch of gasoline. But nevertheless it is always back to Portsmouth.
I fill up more than once per week! I am allowed 25 cents per mile travel, AFTER I arrive in Chillicothe and go elsewhere on official outreach projects. Serving veterans is my calling; but the gasoline prices are crushing my income and eventually will restrict my ability to afford to provide the services currently offered.
AMVETS voted to keep travel at 25 cents per mile at the last conference and I only get travel allowance after I arrive and then go on the journey. Which is the way it is supposed to be, as everybody drives to work at their own cost.
Gasoline was $2.09.9 cents per gallon in Columbus as well today.

Dave.....Not knowing your personal schedule....I had no idea the number of miles that you traveled in a weeks time frame . My suggestion was based on someone that fills up....once per week .

But looking at the situation for yourself , on the positive side.....you at least get .25 cents per mile.....most of the rest of us.....get nothing . It all comes out of our own pockets . So.....when I'm paying $ 2.09 per gallon.....your actually paying $ 1.84 .....for what it's worth....!

Yes you are correct. However the first 50 miles are on my own, the last 50 miles are on my own, everyday. So it is still fill up twice per week. I just look at some old records. Gasoline was $1.09.9 cents per gallon in 2000 the first year I got the 25 cents per mile. I like everyone else must take the cost out of another budget item. Besides the .25 is including the cost of wear and tear Eek on my vehicle.
OUCH! .

DALLAS, TEXAS YESTERDAY $1.81 A/GL, NOW $2.01A/GL.
I don't see any relaxation in prices, or coming down in the near future. My truck, pretty much guzzles gas. I drive a total of 90 miles a day.
been thinking of parking my truck and buying a Toyota carolla or a Honda civic, just to drive to work.

Steve.....that photo of the guy with the Scottish " skirt " on , and entered in the " Fish Toss " , looks as if he and the fish , have just recently gotten engaged , by their close proximity . If I didn't know better....it looks as if he is giving the fish a " Big kiss " , before tossing it.....is that fish frozen , it sure looks awfully " ridged " .....!

Yeah! What's with these people wearing combat boots with kilts. Looks like something Ashley McIsaac from Cape Breton would do. Of course I see it more and more, but they should wear the proper shoes.
Wade, you should wear a solid color brief or boxer that matches one of the colors of your kilt. Competitors at the Highland Games have to, because the "prudes" were getting upset.

First Ethyl gasoline sold at Dayton station

Ohio Moments

On Feb. 2, 1923, the first Ethyl gasoline went on sale at a roadside station in Dayton.

In those days, gasoline caused car engines to knock or ping. It was not only annoying, but potentially harmful to the engine.

Thomas Midgely and Charles Kettering, researchers for General Motors in Dayton, discovered that adding tetraethyl lead to the gas eliminated the problem. Kettering coined the resulting mixture "ethyl gasoline," which was dyed red to distinguish it from regular gas.

It was first made available to motorists at a Dayton gas station owned by Willard Talbott, a friend of Kettering. Of course, leaded gasoline was toxic to the environment and to people.

By the mid-1930s a collaboration among General Motors, DuPont and Standard Oil produced Ethyl gas. They managed to suppress government reports about the danger of the product and tetraethyl lead was added to 90 percent of the gasoline used in the United States. Leaded gas was phased out in the 1970s.

Damn EPA! Mad

$1.84 a gallon for Regular Unleaded fuel in my area of NJ.

I think ethanol was $1.10 at Meijer in Michigan in '79. I paid $2.009 tonight at Sam's Club in Clarksville, IN.
