I read through all the posts here over the week end and though I never had the HONOR of knowing the Colonel, the outpouring of memories, expressions of condolences and respect here have given me an excellent idea of the OUTSTANDING leader and officer this Man was.

I add my voice to the many that rally for this great leader to receive what is rightfully his, the Medal of Honor.

I can only try to understand how his presence is missed and humbly add my small expression of respect to this tribute.

Rest in Peace, Colonel Hackworth; you will always live on in the hearts, minds and words of all that knew you and of you. May GOD bless you for your ultimate sacrifice to our country; in and out of the Army. I salute you always.

Semper Fidelis,
Cyn~

My heartfelt condolences to the colonels family. I have read his books and have always admired him for being a soldiers soldier. I pray there are more out there like him, though you may not have always agreed with the colonels sentiments, he was a man of conviction and courage and will be truly missed. Rest in peace colonel, well done. Air Assault!!

There are *******s, toy soldiers and then there are war fighters. Hack was the latter, and a damn good one. You did not have to agree with his opinions to realize what a good war fighting soldier he was. He stood up for his beliefs and more importantly the men under his command.

May he rest in peace! Job done...well.

I was shown a clip in one of my classes concerning the way that modern armies deal with various problems that confront them. It had an interview segment from the '80s where they were talking to Col. Hack. It really made me think of how things might have gone a bit better over in the sandbox, because Hack emphasized the fact that knowing your enemy almost like you know your kitchen was worth a Division. That, and boots on the ground are far superior to any push button toys that the perfumed ones are fascinated with. Even then he was worried with the shrinking concern that the upper echelons were giving the grunts, swabs, and wingnuts.

God Bless you Colonel, you are sorely missed!

Man, am I out of touch.
Hack and I have had several personal conversations reguarding our Vietnam service.
Shows how much I have kept up on the news.

In this case I guess I can get by saying "better late than never".
Salute to you Hack.
Your second and final "Welcome Home"

If you don't read much and hate bull. Do yourself a favour, read any of Hack's books. Then encourage anyone you know to read them. They say knowledge is power, this knowledge will help to understand where we are and how we got here.If you don't recognise yourself or people you know then it's time to start doing thing the right way.

OMG what a load of cobblers. This is a TRIBUTE forum & a dissatisfied person comes bounding on slanging a great man, breaking my feelings of "Heck I never knew this great man, he truly was a warrior amongst the best of warriors". My reading was so wonderful listening to what everyone had to say about him, then YOU, gggrrrrr’ssssssss! Good grief my mon, ye canna even spell FIASCO

I never had the pleasure of meeting this great man but trust me sir, I would have rushed up to him & given him the biggest hugs going, whilst thanking him for being such a caring person.

Men like the Colonel need the FULLEST of recognitions, They are the type of man who make the greatest of leaders, (Wonder how he would have been as President, bet he'd have looked after us Vets & got the neccessary business done) People who slang these magic great people's treasured & precious memories need to, here I choose to plead the fifth.
God forgive you for posting such tripe.

March on in full glory Colonel you have truly earned it. Your body might be gone but you NEVER will be gone, NEVER!!!! Your unbreakable spirit lives on in all who appreciate what you did. You are a warrior amongst warriors.

LONG LIVE THE CONONEL AND THE MANY WARRIORS JUST LIKE HIM! …

Back to reading more about this wonderful man.

"Colonel Hackworth", a true American, and a true American soldier. A soldier who "STOOD-UP-----SPOKE-UP-----SHUT-UP-----& SAT-DOWN". All who wear the uniform should read his book, "ALL", regardless of service. An American who, we should all be very proud of. A soldier and man who stood for principles and values, not only in the military, but in life! "GARY OWEN, Colonel, GARY OWEN" MAJ RP Roedel, USA, RET.

I had the great privilege of meeting Col. Hackworth or Hack as he was called,at a book signing event sometime in 2000.At the time I was sporting a beard(all white). When I stepped up to talk to Hack ,he smiled, looked me in the eye,and promptly pulled my beard saying,"I like that","What's your name young man"We all had a good laugh.
Later on after I had read up on his remarkable life and millitary experiences,I felt honored to meet such a sincere and caring individual. He was a real down to earth guy.
The world has lost a truly good man in a time when men like him are a vanishing breed.
