Is today, (19th) the day, when daylight is the shortest? The Winter solstice?

"UUUHHH" YOU HOOKED! IT'S THE 22ND OF DECEMBER. THE WAITING LIST IS FIVE YEARS LONG TO GET INSIDE THE NEWGRANGE BURIAL CHAMBER AT SLANE, CO. MEATH, IRELAND TO WATCH THE SUN RISE THROUGH THE ENTRANCE. IT'S ALSO A MAJOR MORNING TO BE AT STONEHENGE, ON THE SALISBURY PLAIN, SOUTHEAST OF BATH, ENGLAND, TO WATCH THE SUN RISE THROUGH THE SARSEN TRILOTHONS.

Torch,
There's probably a much shorter line to view the ordeal from "CarHenge" which is located in Alliance, Nebraska.

Stupid wind.

PKEN,

I'VE SEEN THIS CARHENGE, BUT I'M NOT SURE IF IT HAS ANY SIGNIFICANCE TO THE SUN RISING DURING THE SOLSTICES.

So far in the past two months, we have had record flooding, record snow, and a record windstorm.

3 times the Gov's office has declared a natural disaster. It's starting to get comical. Except I'm really tired of driving around in a 5-ton saving stupid people.

I'll bet you didn't blame the problems on Bush/FEMA/Feds. Has anyone noticed as you get closer to 45 degrees north the worlds "social problems" get fewer???????? Why?

Blame the Feds? For what? Giving me an excuse to set a blazing huge bonfire in my backyard and roast weinies??? Letting me set up tents in my house and camp (every kids dream. The two year old loved it)? Taking long drives in the pickup to get gasoline and supplies, as well as recharge the cell-phones??? Hell no, all that stuff was FUN!!!! If anything, I should thank them.
I've enjoyed our crazy weather, and even all the call-ups for Guard duty (except the crappy $5 an hour we get paid for that stuff). I especially enjoyed taking coffee to all the neighbors. It was fun.

In the Seattle area, they had a huge power outage. My son lives out there. His home still had power, but he couldn't buy gasoline for his car or go to work(the businesses that he inventories still didn't have power) everyone rushed to the gas stations to load up their vehicles and gas cans, so they could fuel their generators.

Last night it started with rain and with the previous ground snow.....we got slush and ice.

Then on top of the ice we got about a foot of snow. There were lots of cars slidding off the highways and some trees and powerlines falling down.

The road crews have been busy and everything seems to be plowed out. I was trying to move the snow in front of the garage with a snowblower, but its so wet and heavy, it just jams up in the chute. My shovel works quite well tho, and after many grunts and heavy lifts, I'm all dug out until next time.

It's a very beautiful sight out there, with the snow covered branches and the rows of houses covered with a thick blanket.

Later on this month, they will have the "Beargrease" along the Northshore of Lake Superior. At least there will be abundant snow for the races. So, those with dogsled teams.....get your dogs and harnesses ready!

There are some cars passing by on the road that weren't brushed off and are driving around with the piled up snow on top. The stuff is real heavy and doesn't blow away.....like a moving snowdrift.

Yesterday, it was sunny and warm...in the mid 60s, low humidity...a little windy on the lake...

Today was more of the same...

Tomorrow, ditto...

Happy New Year!

Gosh I love this global warming stuff. Here on the tropical island www.beaverisland.org the weather is great about 40 and no snow. I guess when the gulf stream crashes (Al's Movie) the east coast gets colder. Best wishes from Beaver.

NO CRASH, JUST NOT GETTING UP TO GREENLAND ANYMORE. ICE MELT FROM THE GLACIERS ARE SPECULATED AS PUSHING IT FURTHER SOUTH, OUT OF IT'S NORMAL NORTH ATLANTIC CYCLE. Wink

Mild winter, little or no wind outa' the North, as we usually get and it has been rainy, which we need. Can't say we've had a freeze in this part of the state or the southeastern part for a decade or more. Farmers & ranchers say it is necessary, and had been happening in earlier years. But that was before the el neno & nana years Confused, which I did not get a handle on until they said it was so. Roll Eyes

As warm as it has ever been here. No frost in the ground, it was a nice day today, high 40's. Thank goodness all was not frozen solid. I've had enough of that.

High 40's to the low 50's here. On Thursday, the forecast is for rain and temps in the low 60's.

Apparently, the Jet-Stream is preventing the cold air from coming down to the South, with exceptions in CO, for example. WX forecast until 15 Jan 07 will remain the same, but a few chilly days, but still above normal. Big Grin
