IT IS NICE TO BELIEVE AGAIN THAT ONE YOUNG AMERICAN CAN JOIN THE MILITARY AND START A LONG OVERDUE AWAKENING OF THE UNDER-EDUCATED EDUCATED CITIZENARY.

Something Nice!
My daughters were out of school this week for Fall break. My wife and I took the week off and just spent time with them. We went shopping. We went to our favorite restaurants. We went to the Sea Center of Texas and met a 300+ pound grouper named Gordon. We went to Varner-Hogg state park and learned some history that isn't taught in schools. We went to Bayou Wildlife Park and fed and petted camels, buffalo, longhorns, water buffalo, and about 40 other kinds of animals.
If that isn't nice, I don't know what is.

I will answer that one, yes as I check 'em all when the prunning is due. There is still one on the Colonel's Board which has not been posted on since July.

I have something nice to say, but I want to tread carefully because I maybe taken the wrong way.

I participated in the NYPD Memorial Run. It's their annual run to honor those officers lost in police service. I couldn't get over the efforts the City put into the planning for this event. They closed down all traffic from Battery Park through the West Side Highway. The motorcycle escort and traffic control was fit for a presidential visit. The weather was perfect. I was in awe running and looking over the river into New Jersey. I really felt blessed running past viewing areas for Statute of Liberty. Later on I realized I wasn't paying attention to my pace and became quite aware I started the first few miles off to fast. Although I tried to adjust my time, I started to feel pain. I could estimate where the finish line was, but I was worried about making it. Someone from the sidelines yelled, "Hey Air Force, you're looking good buddy. Hang in there." I knew he was referring to me, cause I was wearing my good luck USAF shirt. I looked over at him and he waved me a friendly thumbs up. My pain was not replaced by a second wind, but I was more determined then than ever not to quit. I wanted to show this guy his gestures meant something to me. I finished the race in about my same normal time.

The nice part; he was a black guy, with me being a white cop. He probably knew it was a PD run, but he still stood there in our support. He could see the pain in my face and extended his best efforts. There's so much hate and distrust in the world, that an act of kindness means a lot to me. I wish I could reach out to show my appreciation, but I don't know who he is. I see now that he's just a good guy-not much different than the guys here on Colonel Hackworth's pages.

To Duster6,
I just checked out your bio and would like to say,"Thank You", on behalf of all the soldiers you pulled out of a hot LZ. It takes a special kind of courage to disregard the incoming rounds while trying to save the life of someone you don't even know and will probably never know.
I salute you and all your crew for a job well done.

HB 17,

Great Story man, it is good to see the lines are not always drawn on color of skin.

I have several black friends, we get along great. I have been called a few choice words by whites as we hang out. I have also been called some choice words by other blacks.

I dont see color, I see attitude, honor, the way I am treated, I judge my reaction to people based on how they treat me.

Stange for me to do that, I was raised by a Dad that loved everyone, but my grandmother never even saw a black person until she was grown, and always distrusted them. I still think fondly of my brothers from another mother.

They saved my azz more than a few times.

I dont see why we all cant do that. If you are treated good by a person, does it matter the color of his skin. Does it matter if a white or a black, mexcan, asian, or indian, attacks you.

I dont think so, I would just a quickly help anyone, regardless of color if they are in trouble, I just dont understand racists. Its mindboggling to me.

Thats what I like about his place, you see names not colors. I have respect for you all, even if your views are wrong and dont match mine. Big Grin

I'll never be able to determine who that guy was, but I could sense by his dress he wasn't part of the run. Early Sunday morning he was in suit and tie. Perhaps he was going to church or something similiar.

Our collective groups have had frictions in the past. Most likely, these frictions will not discontinue, but we know there's "good guys" out there. It's my job to act my best dealing with anybody. Even when I feel that I'm right and someone else is in the wrong, there's no dishonor giving another guy the benefit of the doubt. Doing the right thing by people will never go out of style.

It seems like we've had a long week. Despite what the so called experts say, I think the full moon last night has a lot do with our behavior. This is where the term lunatic comes from; lunar moon. I'm not suggesting everyone who displays quirky behavior is nuts, but sometimes we can become more sensitive or irritable during these times. Calls of road rage and confrontations sky rocket during these full moons. Even seasoned veterans have looked at the moon calendar when picking vacation to avoid the expected difficulties of working these tours.

We had an odd ball case yesterday that's most likely full moon related. Two arson detectives were transporting a prisoner to court in their unmarked car. Along the parkway they observed a naked male running in & out of traffic. For those of us who have been around awhile, stripping your clothes is not uncommon for someone high on PCP or angel dust. He was experiencing cocaine-induced paranoia. Without any special equipment like a Taser, they tried to take the subject into custody. During the commotion, the arsonist slipped out of the backseat and although handcuffed came to the aid of the two detectives. The prisoner aided by kicking the naked male and then using his almost 300 lb weight to lay on top of the guy until more units responded. I later found out the arsonist was a volunteer firefighter who was charged with setting abandoned buildings on fire. Even though he's a "messed up" guy and caused tens of thousands of dollars in fire damage, he isn't all evil or bad in ways. His heart was in the right place. The parkway suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation with charges pending.

The DA was notified of our disgraced fireman's conduct for consideration, but he was still held without bail. Not all of our actions get rewarded, but at least I receive satisfaction knowing the difference.

Just the opposite here Ron, I was glad to have a wet weekend for once. We are about 9 inches or more under. It was good for once in about 6 months to get a whole day of rain.

Man, we needed it bad. So if anyone has some rain, send it here. I will gladly give you some of our 100 degree days in exchange. Big Grin
