I went to a site recommended by military.com for my loan and all went well until I got a phone call before I was able to get an inspection done on the house, asking me for $400 for the appraisal. The money was taken even after I protested and told them I had not had the inspection but my loan specialist assured me they just needed it for the VA. The inspection came a week later due to problems with the selling agent and turning on the water and then without the water on. Mold was found throughout the wood flooring wall and ceiling of the Kitchen along with several other problems so I canceled the sale. The loan specialist had already had the assessment done and now tells me they want the money again when I find another house.
$655.00 I am out because I paid the $400 and another $255 for the inspector. I understand the inspector but how can an honest appraisal be done before a property inspection? DannCann |

Never have an appraisal done prior to a home inspection for that very reason. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it. I am surprised that the loan officer had you do the appraisal prior to the inspection.

Dann,
I'm going thru the same thing. I'm sending a 410 dollar money order in the morning for the appraisal but I've already done my inspection. I would have to ask, why would you go this far along in the loan proccess w/o doing an inspection? I was told it's all part of the closing cost, so if you don't buy, what happens to the money?
