My husband is looking to get a medical retirement (if all goes well) and we are thinking of buying a house. in 2005 we had to declare bankruptcy because he lost his job and we could not sell our house when he found a job in another state. my student loan is in forbarence and we are currently working to get my dh's students loans either in forbarence or up to date. he was recently told that if our credit score was not in the 700's we should not bother as we will be turned down. right now both our credit scores are in the high 600's close to 700. we had hoped to buy a house since the military will pay for our last move? any suggestions???

Yes. Apply now. However, it will be based on his retirement income and not present income. Your credit scores are high enough to be considered compensationg factors with a VA loan.
