I understand that time served during Boot Camp does not count towards Active Duty. What about the training done afterwards?

On my husbands DD Form 214, it's listed that he was
1. "Released from active duty"
2. "Completion of initial active duty training"
3. "Character of Service: Honorable"

He did training as a Medical Service Apprentice for 294 consecutive days. This training was done in preparation for joining the AF Reserves, but while he was gone, sure felt like it was Active Duty to me...

I hope it does count, cause this itty bitty apartment we've been in for 14 years isn't big enough anymore...

Thanks!

Thanks!

Basic 4/6/2004 - 5/21/2004 24 days
IADT (Active Duty) 5/22/2004 - 1/25/2005 249 days
Reservist 1/26/2005 - NOW

The DD214 states that it was "Initial Active Duty Training", NOT "Inactive Active Duty Training". Also that the type of separation was Active Duty.

Now, when referring to the 6 year is complete, it stats that his Reserve Obligation Termination date is 12/08/2009.

Thing is, I've read in several places that the IADT does count as Active Duty if longer than 180 days, because you are on "Federal Orders".

He was Active Duty TILL 1/25/2005, then he became a Reservist.

1. So, instead of trying to get a VA loan based on his reserve years, couldn't we do it based on when he was Active Duty, or was he not Active Duty long enough?
2. Since his Reservist termination date is 12/08/2009, does that mean we can apply on 12/09/2009?

No but he would probably qualify right now on an FHA loan for veterans who do not have eligibility. There are very few lenders that offer that program. What state are you buying in?

Shouldn't be tough as long as your credit and income is there. Have you tried applying with a mortgage company yet?
