I am looking for optics that would mount on both the M16 and M4 that would help me keep the same sight picture. Being Aviation and shooting at a range once every 15 months it is hard to work on BRM while working aircraft all the time. Pleas let me know what ya'll like or dont like.
Aimpoint and Eotech make great optics, but cost an arm and a leg. I have an AR-15 for duty use, I'm a police officer and head our emergency response team. My rifle has an eotech holographic sight, but some guys prefer the aimpoint red dot scope. Each will cost in excess of $300.00.
If you are looking at buying one just for range quals, you don't need anything that fancy. Also, if you are shooting a rifle maintained by the military and you only shoot it once every 15 months, I would check to be sure you can even use after market optics when you qualify.
Secondly, make sure that what ever you buy will mount to the rifle you use when you qualify. Does it need a rail, etc.?
Third, even after market sights have to be zeroed. You will have to mount it and then shoot and adjust until you have it on target.
Ask the range instructor for help with the sights already on the rifle. Make sure you are zeroed on that weapon.
If you have to get a sight, you can search on the internet and find some decent "knockoff" sights. Play around with them to see which suits you better, red dot or holographic, then decide which one you want to spend big bucks on.
