Hey everyone, some of you may know me already, some may not. Any how, when I joined the navy I was promise the GI Bill and the NAVY college fund. Unfortunately I was able to use the GI bill only. Even though I have records that prove that I was given both I still have not received my NAVY college fund money for my education. What advise can you give me on obtaining it? Thanks

From the Navy site - do you have the documentation required.
The guarantee of NCF is made only by the classifier and is documented on DD Form 4 or its annex. If NCF is not documented on your DD Form 4 or its annex, you will not receive NCF benefits. http://www.npc.navy.mil/CareerInfo/Education/GIBill/NavyCollegeFundProgam.htm |

Well, I read the NPC website, and I was just looking through my record and I saw that no amount was specified on the dd form 4 annex. I was just wondering if this is standard? If not then how could I go about finding our what my actual amount is?

Well,
I know this post is old - but for all of you looking to find out what the REAL deal is - http://www.psapac.navy.mil/psdguam/college.htm This was the most helpful out of all the sites (Navy and Civilian sites) I could find about the Navy College Fund. I too - like the others who posted here, have "Navy college fund" listed on my DD form 4 annex and on the DD Form 1966. However, there is no amount listed. Call the NCF Program Manager who can be reached at 1-800-962-1425 to find out if you have it and what the amount is. This # works, I found out today that I have 40,000 navy college fund. The Gentleman i talked to was receptive and very cooperative. Hope you guys have a successful resolution !! Cheers, James |

So how did it all work out for you?
I have the 40,000 navy college fund too. I expected 40,000 plus 36,000 = 76,000 divided by 36 months = 2,111.000 Plus I did the top up program which would be another 150.00 a month. So I was counting on around 2,250.00 a month. I ended up getting a full time rate of 1550.00 a month. Not bad, but still... I was counting on 2,250.00. Anyway, now that you know you have the 40,000 navy college fund, what does that mean? What is your monthly rate? Can we still only get the money for 36 months or do we get paid till it runs out? thanks. |

Ok, I called the number above and talked to someone about the navy college fund. This is what she explained to me:
When I joined the gi bill was 28,000 dollars. The navy college fund was to bring the gi bill up to 40,000 dollars(not an extra 40,000). So they gave me over 11,000 dollars to equal 40,000. So, really what I have is the GI Bill + 11,000 kicker + 600 dollar buy up program. |

Sounds to me like your education claim was done properly. Whatever the MGIB rate was on your date of entry into the Navy multiplied by 36 months is subtracted from the $40,000 then they didvide the remaining amount by 36 months and add that amount monthly to the MGIB basic rate plus your buy up amount. Still beats the $$ I got out of the VEAP program. What a rip off that was.
