I don't think anyone knows how this new GI Bill will be applied especially in a state that picks up your tuition to in state schools such as Illinois. I think that will kind of be a grey area for awhile. Here's a couple things to keep in mind. You do not have to convert to the new GI Bill (chapter 33)if it is not going to be adventageous to you personally. But most vets are only getting $1101 per month currently for full time enrollment and the new benefit comes with around $1400 a month in housing plus up to $1000 per year in a stipend to buy books and supplies. How this all is applied to the individual vet at this point would just be a bad guess.

The way it seems you will be able to go to nearly any school you want even an Ivy league school but because they are spending so much money doing that ,you will not see the money it will go straight to the school and probably only be just enough to pay for your tuition. The Housing stipend and Book benefit will be given to you. We evidently will have a choice as long as we qualify as Post 9-11 veterans. I will likely stay with the old GI Bill because I am an online student overseas and I will not get the housing stipend, only traditional school students(in face to face cl***es) will get housing money. http://www.gibill.va.gov/s22.htmhttp://education.military.com/money-for-school/gi-bill/new-gi-bill-overview
